Pro Bono episode 9 opens with trouble walking straight into Gi-ppeum’s day. Jae-bum, the man who once conned David, shows up without warning, but he doesn’t come quietly either.

So, Gi-ppeum reacts instantly, calling him out for what he did to David, and she expects regret but gets something else entirely.

Jae-bum’s claim changes everything

Instead of apologizing, Jae-bum asks Gi-ppeum to take his case, but he tells her she should see the truth for herself. He leaves behind stacks of documents, heavy both in size and meaning.

According to him, David ruined his father’s life on purpose and claims the charges against his father were unfair and personal. That accusation lingers long after he leaves, and Gi-ppeum decides she can’t ignore it, even if it hurts.

Behind the scenes on Pro Bono

While Gi-ppeum digs through the files, David meets Gyu-jang, who praises him without hesitation. He even congratulates David for bringing in a star client like Elijah.

He confirms the Pro Bono team will stay intact, and that reassurance raises eyebrows, especially for Jung-in. She knows her father well enough to sense something off, so his approval feels less like support and more like a strategy.

The files no one wanted to see

After reviewing Jae-bum’s documents, Gi-ppeum calls a team meeting, but again, David is not invited. She lays out the evidence piece by piece.

The case centres on a factory fire and a powerful CEO, and David had charged the CEO instead of an employee. On paper, it looks like justice, but in context, it looks calculated. The team begins to suspect David used his position unfairly, and by the end, most believe the trial was manipulated.

Gi-ppeum confronts David

Gi-ppeum tells David everything and explains how the case reached her. She asks him directly for his side of the story. David doesn’t respond calmly, but his silence says as much as his anger. Instead of explaining himself, he goes to confront Jae-bum because he needs answers, even if they come too late.

Enemies in high places

The episode slowly reveals deeper tension as David has a history with Jae-bum’s father. That past may explain his harsh judgment, but another figure looms larger.

Gyu-jang appears determined to destroy David, and his reasons remain unclear, but his actions do not. As a result, Jung-in pays the price. Pressure mounts for her to step down as CEO- all because she brought David into the firm.

A public betrayal

Gyu-jang takes things further, and he approaches the Pro Bono team directly. He pushes them to take the case against David, and the message is clear that David now stands alone.

The final blow

David visits Judge Shin and accuses him of betrayal, openly and without caution. The confrontation feels bold but desperate as David shows confidence on the surface.

On the other hand, Gi-ppeum struggles as well, as she wants to trust David. The facts make that harder every minute.

Episode 9 verdict

Episode 9 leans heavily into tension, and it places David in a corner with no easy exits. His team doubts him, past works against him, and the episode keeps viewers uneasy on purpose.

It asks an uncomfortable question like "Is David guilty, or is this a careful setup?" The answer feels close, but not yet within reach.
