As if the cancellation of The Equalizer wasn't bad enough, now the Queen Latifah led show will be departing from Netflix on June 16, 2025. Following the cancellation of The Equalizer by CBS, the fate of the show seemed to hang in the balance and things do not seem to improve, now that the show has lost it's place on the streaming platform giant.
Long-time fans of the crime drama show will have no recourse but to stream The Equalizer on Paramount+ where the show will be available for the time being.
Here's everything that you need to know.
The future of The Equalizer remains uncertain
On the surface, the decision of the network to not renew The Equalizer beyond it's formerly aired fifth season seems to be baffling. The show had been raking in a regular number of eyeballs and had a loyal audience to cater to. It was considered to be a safe option to be renewed by those in the know.
Despite stable popularity, the show had to contend with heavy competition from other crime and procedural shows and underwent quite a few slot changes on the network as a result.
It has also come into light that Queen Latifah and Universal Television had agreed upon reducing the budget for the show. Neverthless, CBS didn't relent on their decision to not greelight the sixth season of the show. Apart from this, the proposed spin-off of the show which was supposed to feature Bosch star Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz of Harlem fame was also canned.
Queen Latifah opens up on the cancellation of The Equalizer
Latifah recently sat down with US Weekly for an exclusive interview during the course of which she shared her thoughts about the CBS show's cancellation:
"It is a little out of my hands in terms of what happens with it from this point forward. But I do appreciate what we were able to do and we made some good TV. I am processing (the cancellation). It occurred to me that it has been such a big part of my life for the last — more than — five years actually. I’m thankful. I’m very grateful. I’m in a very grateful place. I’m grateful to the fans of the show for sticking with it."
Latifah also went on to thank the network for giving her the opportunity to make the show:
"I appreciate CBS putting us on and my producing partners and the wonderful cast I got to work with. They became my family. There is also this wonderful crew, writers, showrunners and everybody was involved in it. And really the fans who rocked with us."
She further added:
“I made this show for my grandmother — who’s sitting right in that recliner watching it. And she just said, ‘I just love that action.’ I’m thankful. I’m very grateful. I’m in a very grateful place. I’m grateful to the fans of the show for sticking with it."
The Equalizer is available for streaming on Paramount+.
