The Witcher is a fantasy series. It is written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. It mainly follows Geralt of Rivia. It is a monster hunter with superhuman skills and the show’s plot began with a short story in 1986. It is expanded into a nine-book series. This is done with 15 short stories released between 1986 and 2024. The books combine Slavic mythology, moral quandaries, and dark comedy.

They have sold more than 15 million copies and been translated into 37 languages and the series spawned a film, two television episodes, comic books, and a massively successful computer game franchise with over 75 million copies sold worldwide.

Freya Allan described the production of The Witcher Season 4's conclusion as particularly demanding. Ciri, her character, is devastated when bounty hunter Leo Bonhart kills her comrades. Allan undertook swordplay and stunt training in preparation for his role. Season 4 of the Netflix series stars Liam Hemsworth as Geralt, setting up the final season. In an interview with Collider, she talked about her journey, saying:

"I actually feel like it was probably one of the hardest scenes in terms of I don't usually get upset in between, but I found myself crying before and after, and I think I found the whole thing quite disturbing, as everyone did who was there that day."

More about Freya Allan and The Witcher Season 4 finale

Freya Allan is widely recognized for her role as Princess Cirilla of Cintra in Netflix’s The Witcher. She has recently shared her experience filming the emotionally intense Season 4 finale. Released on October 30, 2025, the episode marks one of the most challenging points in Ciri’s story and sets up the final season of the series.

In Season 4, Ciri joins a group called the Rats. Her adventure is tragically cut short when her newfound acquaintances, including a romantic interest, are killed by the merciless bounty hunter Leo Bonhart. Allan regarded the moments as highly unpleasant, stating that the emotional effect was heightened by her personal relationships with her fellow performers. In an interview with Collider, she stated,

"It was quite a bizarre day. But yeah, it was one of those things where you just let it happen in the moment and just live through that horror."

In doing so, she let it slip that she’d cried both before and after the cameras rolled. Allan called on his many years of experience. This was to illustrate Ciri in advance of the final season. This informed how the character evolved from a young princess to a savvy, strong survivor. In reality, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said that the dreaded conclusion was meant to pull Ciri out of her “happy place” as seen before.

She further said that the ending was designed to contrast Ciri’s experience at the tail end of the season with how happy we saw her just a few episodes ago.

In addition, after Henry Cavill departs in Season 4 of The Witcher, Liam Hemsworth will play Geralt of Rivia. The final three books of Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy trilogy are adapted in this season and Season 5. Allan's hard training for the season, which included swordplay and stunt work, represents Ciri's transformation into a skilled warrior.

Allan's portrayal of Ciri highlights her heroic and personal journey while also communicating the character's power, compassion, and determination. As the season concludes, fans can expect a dramatic, emotionally packed plot that tests Ciri in ways never seen before. Season 4 of The Witcher is only available on Netflix.
