I Love LA, the new HBO comedy, is created, written, and directed by, Rachel Sennott, who also stars as the lead. Sennott plays Maia, an aspiring talent manager, and the show follows her and her friend group as they figure out life, love, and careers in the city of LA.

But other than Sennott and other lead actors of I Love LA, Ayo Edebiri, who is well-known for playing Sydney Adamu in The Bear, also guest stars as Mimi Rush, one of Charlie's clients. Ayo Edebiri isn't part of the main cast, but how she came to guest star on the show has its own story, that Sonnett shared with The Hollywood Reporter recently.

I Love LA premiered on HBO on November 2, 2025, and is set to release 8 episodes in Season 1. It has also been renewed for Season 2. The show has received quite the love and buzz for being a show that highlights friendship, career, and love struggles for the newer generation. Rachel Sennott, who has not only created and directed the show, but also starred in it, was recently asked in an interview by The Hollywood Reporter how Ayo Edebiri became a part of the show, and how it was decided she would have a cameo.

Sennott responded saying,

"We found that together. She is a comedic genius. We definitely had the bones of a character, an unhinged diva. I pitched her the idea the morning after the Met Gala. I was like, “Hey, can I send you this?” She Zooms me from her hotel room. It’s like pitch black. She’s like, “Speak to me! What’s the idea?” Then we started jamming on it. Afterward, [writer-producers] Emma Barrie and Max Silvestri talked to her, and we were like, “Do you want to come to the writers room? We need you!”"

Sennott and Edebiri have worked together on other projects like Bottoms, and it seems that Edebiri was on Sennott's mind, which allowed her to pitch it to her spontaneously. Edebiri is known for her roles in both comedies and dramas, and while we haven't seen her in a comedic role in a while, her character, Mimi, who is a British pop star, and slightly chaotic, has fit her well, is set to leave quite the mark.

I Love LA also stars Odessa A'zion as Tallulah Stiel, True Whitaker as Alani Marcus, Jordan Firstman as Charlie Cohen, Josh Hutcherson as Dylan, Lauren Holt as Courtney, Moses Ingram as Tessa, Leighton Meester as Alyssa, Annalisa Cochrane as Paulena, Josh Brener as Victor, and Quenlin Blackwell as an influencer. The show also stars Elijah Wood, Tim Baltz, Froy Gutierrez, and Colin Woodell in unspecified roles.

I Love LA has been produced by Carr Rundle and executive produced by Rachel Sennott, Emma Barrie, Aida Rodgers, Max Silvestri, and Lorene Scafaria. The production companies behind the show are Bizarro Brothers, Treacly Productions, and HBO Entertainment.

The next episode of I Love LA titled, Upstairses, will be released on HBO on November 23, 2025.
