If you prefer your Monday evenings to be filled with tension, real emotions, and plots that grab your attention, Survival Mode has just the episode for you. Episode 8 delivers all of this and more. Titled Superstorm Sandy, this episode recalls the massive storm that swept the East Coast in 2012. It focuses on ordinary people who had to resist wind, water, and flames—and make life-or-death decisions in a matter of seconds.
Survival Mode Episode 8 is scheduled to air Monday, August 25, 2025, at 10 pm on NBC and will stream the next day via Peacock. As with other episodes in the series, it employs survivor interviews, real footage, and graphical imagery that convey the stakes without the melodrama of a disaster film. Instead, it pulls you in, making you question what you would do in such a situation. This episode is likely to hit both nerves and heart, as the series has already done with Kentucky floods, pileups, and mudslides. Bring a blanket and possibly a notepad—you will experience more than just chills.
Survival Mode Season 8 preview

The preview of Episode 8, released on August 21, opens with Jeremy Donovan, father of three-week-old William, recounting the harrowing scene he witnessed that day.
Jeremy’s son had undergone a heart operation at NYU Langone Medical Center, but his father was forced to take him from the hospital as its basements had flooded with stormwater. Jeremy said:
“I started my trek through New York City and it was this very dystopian feeling of walking down 34th Street with no people around and the wind is whipping the trees and rain is pelting and I just had to keep pushing forward and soaked to the bone uh but continuing to just try to get there. I rounded the corner and saw the hospital and the first thing that stood out to me was just the flashing ambulance lights. I was looking down First Avenue and there was just ambulance after ambulance as far as the eye could see lined up at the hospital and I'm seeing gurneys roll by with very intensively needy patients. It was like nothing I could've ever imagined, seeing an emergency unfolding before my eyes. At that point it was clear we were facing something no one had prepared for. And I'm just feeling this drive to go find my son.”
