South Park was set to premiere a brand-new episode on September 17, but failed to do so. This news comes in the wake of Comedy Central's announcement that the show would air the six remaining episodes of Season 27 on a biweekly schedule instead of the usual weekly schedule.
Fans of the animated parody had been looking forward to the September 17 episode. However, the creators took to South Park's official Instagram on the same day to announce that the episode would be delayed by another week.
Keep reading to find out the reason behind this delay, as revealed by the creators of the Comedy Central show.
South Park episode release delayed by a week; creators cite procrastination

South Park is known for its timely, satirical, and controversial parody, and considering the controversial headlines in the nation, fans of the show were looking forward to a new episode from the animated show. The Comedy Central show was set to air a brand-new episode on September 17, 2025.
However, on the same day that the episode was scheduled to air, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone took to their Instagram and announced that the new episode was delayed by a week. They cited procrastination as the reason behind the delay, explaining that they'd left everything for the last minute and been unable to finish on time.
Apologizing and thanking the network and their fans for understanding, creators Parker and Stone reassured that the episode would definitely premiere next week. Here's what they said:
"Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done. This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!"
The last-minute delay comes after the announcement from Comedy Central that Season 27 of the show would be taking a different scheduling route than the previous seasons. Previously, new episodes for the animated show would air on Comedy Central every week. However, according to the network's announcement, new episodes for Season 27 would air biweekly.
In the new schedule, six episodes were set to premiere on September 17, followed by a biweekly premiere. However, they will now start airing on September 24, followed by October 15, October 29, November 12, November 26, and finally December 10. The schedule can be subject to change (if the creators suffer from another bout of procrastination again).
The reason why this particular episode was so anticipated is the animated comedy's tendency to present its satirical take on current events, particularly political current events. At the moment, the American political scene is turbulent, to say the least, so a South Park take is exactly what the audience was looking forward to.
Nonetheless, fans will have to wait another week before the new episode's release. Knowing South Park, however, the extra week is only going to enrich the episode's content.
