The Stranger Things Season 5 finale marks the end of an era, and fans of the show will finally get the chance to celebrate it as such. For the past decade, each season has grown even bigger and become a larger blockbuster than the last. Now that the final season's release is inching closer, the anticipation has reached a whole new level.

From debating the possible deaths in the final season to trying to decipher clues from interviews with the creators and the cast, Stranger Things Season 5 has truly brought an entire fanbase together. Now, this fanbase has the actual opportunity to come together for the series finale.

It was previously reported by Puck that Netflix might be brokering a deal with AMC to bring the season finale to theaters. This news has now been confirmed after an official statement from the Duffer brothers and Netflix. The statement reads:

"We’re beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters. It’s something we’ve dreamed about for years, and we’re so grateful to Ted, Bela, and everyone at Netflix for making it happen. Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect — dare we say bitchin’ — way to celebrate the end of this adventure."

Netflix has also released information about the select theatrical release. According to the streamer, theatrical screenings will be taking place in more than 350 theaters across the United States and Canada from December 31, 5 P.M. PT.

The theatrical release coincides with the official global premiere on the streaming platform. The limited theatrical screenings will run for a very short time, through January 1, 2026. More details about the specific theater locations and how fans can participate in the select theatrical release will be announced later.

The theatrical release for Stranger Things Season 5 represents a substantial shift for Netflix, which has traditionally leaned toward streaming premieres only. The global blockbuster is among the first original series from the streamer to receive a theatrical release.

This decision aligns with the Duffer brothers' dream of theatrical releases for their creations, as they are fans of theaters themselves. The Duffer brothers' decision to leave Netflix and sign a deal with Paramount was also influenced by their desire for theatrical releases. Therefore, Netflix has found a perfect starting point with the blockbuster's theatrical release to tap into a new audience.

We're just a month away from the cultural phenomenon that is the Stranger Things Season 5 finale. The news about a theatrical release is sure to enhance the unique experience that the two-hour finale promises to be.
