An exclusive report by Deadline has suggested that HBO and creator Mike White have 'zeroed in' on France as the upcoming location for The White Lotus Season 4. This indicates that after taking his audience on a deep dive into Buddhist culture in Thailand in Season 3, White is all set to tap into a new geographical aesthetic in France.

Earlier, HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi hinted to Deadline that the new season of White's anthology series could take viewers to Europe:

“I can’t really say where we’re going to land, but chances are somewhere in Europe.”

HBO has an exclusive deal with the Four Seasons Hotel chain, which has transformed into the titular resorts in the previous three seasons of The White Lotus. France is home to three luxury and beautiful Four Seasons hotels, namely Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat on the French Riviera, the Hotel George V in Paris, and the Megève in the Alps. A new set of actors will likely spend a week of crazy vacation in one of these three locations in France.

More on The White Lotus Season 4 in our story.

The White Lotus Season 4 might go to France

Mike White's The White Lotus, which premiered in 2021, is a black-comedy anthology series that follows a set of elite and morally ambiguous guests as they spend a week of luxury vacation in a different location each season. For previous seasons, the show journeyed to Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand, respectively.

White used the iconic Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui for Season 3, which doubled as a White Lotus resort, becoming the ground for another round of murder mystery and mayhem. Additionally, the anthology series also uses a mix of other non-Four Seasons Hotels.

While The White Lotus is journeying to France for Season 4, it is still not confirmed which Four Seasons Hotel will become the ideal vacay spot for White's guests. However, sources are placing their bets on the popular Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, which is located just on the tip of the Cap-Ferrat peninsula. This Four Seasons Hotel not only has strong ties to Hollywood, but is also in proximity to Cannes.

Talking about the iconic Hotel George V in Paris, it is unlikely that White will choose an urban setting for The White Lotus. While Paris seems to be a trendy geographical location on the small screen right now, with Emily in Paris and The Summer I Turned Pretty sending their protagonists on self-discovery side-quests in the city, it doesn't scream chaos and murder.

Since Paris is the city of romance, we are highly skeptical that Hotel George V will become the main setting for Season 4.

Lastly, Megève will surely be a welcome change of aesthetic from the past seasons, but the location is a very popular ski resort in Winter. Since White famously 'hates the cold', he is not exactly a fan of ski resorts, which might push Megève out of the race to become a White Lotus resort in Season 4.

In a previous interview, White has also revealed a key change in the Season 4 location:

“For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves of rocks vernacular but there’s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.''

While all previous seasons have featured beautiful sequences by the 'crashing waves', it would be exciting to see what change of scenery the upcoming season brings.
