Resident Alien Season 4 Episode 9 recap: The Mantid showdown
Most of the action in Resident Alien Season 4 Episode 9 takes place inside the eerie mines beneath Patience. A flashback reveals a tragic mining disaster that happened more than 130 years ago. In the present, Harry and Sheriff Mike team up to hunt the shapeshifting Mantid, unaware that it has taken the form of Deputy Liv.
Max and Sahar are the first to figure this out and warn the others. While Harry and Mike head into the mine to stop the creature, Max races in after them against Asta’s wishes. At one point, two versions of Asta appear in the tunnel, one real and one fake.
Mike struggles to decide which one is the Mantid until Max identifies the real Asta. Later, Harry fights the Mantid in his alien form. With help from Kate, who uses an alien taser, and Harry’s combat skills, they manage to kill the creature. However, Liv remains missing and is kept alive to feed baby aliens when they hatch.
Luckily, Harry and Mike track Liv down before the alien eggs hatch. They find her tied up with Robert. Just when it seems too late, Peter Bach shows up with a flamethrower and burns the alien egg sac to ash and saves Liv.
Resident Alien Season 4 Episode 9 recap: Asta’s near-death experience
During the mine fight, Asta is injured. Back at the clinic, Kate discovers a black, poison-like wound on Asta’s arm. She becomes unconscious and grows weaker with time. Harry decides to use his alien blood for a transfusion to save her. The move could be risky as it can either save Asta or kill her.
While she is unconscious, Asta’s spirit seems to leave her body. She sees everything, from the past and the present to the future. While Asta is out, D’arcy speaks to her and pours her heart out. She shares how scared she is and how much she loves her.
Thankfully, the transfusion works. Asta wakes up, and she remembers everything D’arcy said. Feeling changed by her near-death experience, Asta contemplates her future in Patience.
Resident Alien Season 4 Episode 9 recap: Harry thinks about leaving Patience
After the showdown, everyone is moved and starts to think about the next phase of their lives. Liv is completely done with aliens after the traumatizing incident. Mike understands how hard it was for her and supports her decision to move on from the alien stuff.
Meanwhile, Harry and Asta discuss that it is time to leave Patience. Asta tells Harry she wants to live a braver life. Harry tells her that he is leaving too, to be with Heather. He now cares about people and understands feelings more than ever.
Ben and Kate also have a conversation as they realize Max’s ability to see aliens is special, and they want to support him. However, the episode ends on a cliffhanger as Asta mutters the words, ‘They’re here,’ setting up an intense series finale.
