The Osbournes, the hit MTV reality show featuring Ozzy Osbourne and his domestic life, has seen new interest after the death of the singer at 76. Nicknamed the "Prince of Darkness," Ozzy Osbourne's death has led many fans to revisit the series.

In an official statement, Ozzy Osbourne’s family said:

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”

Ozzy Osbourne was an international legend famous for influencing the genre of heavy metal music. Ozzy started his career in Birmingham, UK, and gained fame as the vocalist of Black Sabbath. Through time, he also established a prosperous solo career.

His home life was made public by the series, which presented a softer side of the rock star that many hadn't experienced. Sharon, Jack, and Kelly Osbourne themselves became media celebrities in their own right, branching out beyond the success of the show. Ozzy went on performing until his last public show on July 5, 2025, in Birmingham.

Additionally, the FAST Channel features The Basement Tapes, a spin-off series where comedian Amy Miller joins the Osbourne family to rewatch and comment on past episodes.

The Osbournes: Reality TV impact and reception

The series premiered on MTV in 2002. The program tracked Ozzy Osbourne, his wife Sharon, and their kids Jack and Kelly's everyday life. With MTV naming it as their highest-rated series at the time, it soon became rather popular.

The program took the 2002 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality Program in its debut season. One of the main impact of the show was that it allowed viewers to see a rock star's family life.

In April 2025, the VP of the FAST Channel characterized the series by saying:

“The Osbournes are not only one of the world’s most influential families, but their series is one of the most important reality series of all time – providing some of the most outrageous and entertaining TV moments of the last few decades.”

Although a planned resurgence in 2022 did not materialise, specials such as The Osbournes Want to Believe and The Osbournes: Night of Terror have kept attention in the original series going strong. Fans may now readily return to or discover the program thanks to the updated streaming choices.

Following Ozzy Osbourne's death, fans have gone back to the show to honor both his personal life and musical career. The program gives a permanent means to reflect back on his life and the dynamics of his well-known family now that it is accessible on several platforms.
