Rick & Morty Season 8 just brought back this much-awaited character after 10 years: Here’s all you need to know about their return

Rick & Morty Season 8 Episode 8 Nomortland bought back a minor but important character from Season 2, which revealed a shocking truth about Jerry and Beth's marriage in the Five O'Clock Shadow universe.

The latest episode of Rick & Morty saw Jerry embarking on a multiverse adventure with one of his other selves, who is revealed to be Five O'Clock Shadow Jerry, named because everyone in his universe has a five o'clock shadow.

Five O'Clock Shadow Jerry takes our Jerry on a trip across The Road, an interdimensional passageway for all the versions of Jerrys to slip in and out of their alternate realities. As revealed in Rick & Morty Season 8 Nomortland, all these Jerrys have lost their family and are now nomads.

As Five O'Clock Shadow Jerry takes our Jerry to his universe, they meet Paul Fleishman, a character introduced in Season 2 Mortynight Run, who claimed that in his universe, Beth left Jerry and remarried to him instead.

Rick & Morty Season 8: What is the backstory of Jerry and Paul Fleishman?

Rick & Morty Season 8 brought back an important version of Jerry, who was teased all the way back in Season 2 Mortynight Run, which also featured Jerryboree for the first time.

After Rick and Morty went to Blips and Chitz to play some games, they left their Jerry Smith at Jerryboree, an interdimensional daycare center used to look after the multiple versions of Jerry.

While Jerry met many characters and versions of himself at Jerryboree, one character naturally stood out, who claimed that in his universe, Beth left Jerry and married him instead. This character was named Paul Fleishman. The only non-Jerry in Jerryboree, Paul claimed that he treated Beth better than Jerry and did not overstep his boundaries with Morty.

While Paul and his universe seemed like a dark turn for Jerry and Beth's marriage, nobody could have imagined that he would make a comeback in Rick & Morty Season 8, where Beth would have actually left Jerry for him.

While Rick & Morty Season 8 Episode 8 revealed Five O'Clock Shadow Jerry's family left him, nobody would have thought that this would be the universe where Beth remarried Paul.

But in a strange twist of events, as Five O'Clock Shadow Jerry takes our Jerry to his original universe, it is revealed that everyone has a Five O'Clock Shadow here and this is where Beth left Jerry and remarried to Paul.

While our Jerry did not believe Paul when he claimed to have married Beth in Season 2, Rick & Morty Season 8's latest episode confirmed that Five O'Clock Shadow Beth left Jerry. Since Jerry is shown to be a neurotic guy who does not like taking risks, it could be the reason why Beth left him and remarried Paul.

However, the real reason was that Paul was just a regular guy (unlike Jerry), who loved Beth unconditionally and was great with her children. Just like Paul had claimed in Season 2, Beth was much happier with him than she ever was with Jerry, which was a dark take on their marriage in the original universe.

The fact that Rick & Morty Season 8 featured the Five O'Clock Shadow universe, where Beth had remarried Paul, suggests that Beth always longed for safety and stability in her marriage, which she never got from Jerry.
