The X-Files might just be calling in some familiar agents again. With Ryan Coogler directing the new show, fans cannot wait to know which of the original X-Files cast members could possibly make a comeback for the reboot.

While David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson haven't ruled out a comeback, one other name also stands out: Robert Patrick. The actor, who played Special Agent John Doggett, has recently talked about whether he'd want to be back for the reboot, and his answer is what is making fans cling to hope for a possible comeback for The X-Files reboot.

Robert Patrick opens up about his love for Doggett and a possible return for the X-Files Reboot

When it comes to The X-Files, Robert Patrick doesn't need much convincing to revisit his iconic role. Speaking to ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns during an interview for Tulsa King season 3, Patrick couldn't hide his affection for Agent Doggett, who was introduced in Season 8 of the original show.

When asked about the show, he happily said;

"That is my favorite character of all time!"

Asked what he'd like to see if Doggett were to reappear, Patrick said;

"It'd be interesting to see what's happened to him in the elapsed time in between him being there and wherever they pick up. They've never had me back before because of my schedule...But that's the character that's most dear to my heart, and what I loved about him was he was a very strong, tough guy, but had a heart of gold."

For fans, his tough-guy attitude but heart of gold also made Doggett so loved during the show.

While he wasn't involved in the 2010s revival, the legacy of the actor as well as of the character remains strong, and fans haven't stopped thinking if he'll ever return.

Ryan Coogler’s reboot vision could finally make it happen

The upcoming X-Files reboot, directed by Ryan Coogler, has fans in an optimistic frenzy. Coogler has confirmed that this is the next project that will be his big focus, telling Last Podcast on the Left.

"I've been excited about that for a long time and I'm fired up to get back to it."

He even talked about how some of the episodes will be "really scary," which sounds exactly like what fans would want to see on a show like this.

Interestingly, Coogler also talked about how he has already spoken to Gillian Anderson about The X-Files reboot. He said,

"She's incredible and fingers crossed there."

Whether that means we'll see Dana Scully on our screens again or not remains to be seen, but it sure is a sign to look out for. Meanwhile, Chris Carter, who is the original creator of the show, has confirmed that while he isn't involved in the new reboot, he's for sure given Coogler all of his blessings.

The X-Files reboot will bring in a new set of characters but will be set in the same universe, leaving the door open for agents like Mulder, Scully, and Doggett to make appearances. With Coogler's track record of working with franchises from Rocky to the MCU, the very idea of bringing Doggett or any of the past characters back for even a single episode doesn't seem so unlikely.

As Ryan Coogler gets ready to blow new life into The X-Files, fans can't help but dream of seeing known faces back on their screens again. And with Robert Patrick openly mentioning his love for John Doggett and The X-Files, that dream does feel like it could be closer than ever, and we would perhaps be seeing him on our screens if all works out well.

The actor's connection to the role and Coogler's love for admiring and appreciating the show's legacy could be the perfect way to make the impossible possible in this new era of The X-Files.
