The Office is still remembered for its crazy moments, many of which were outright cringeworthy and silly but also some of the funniest in the show. However, amid its funny storylines, the show also portrayed many memorable scenes that depicted the close relationships between the employees of Dunder Mifflin. The wedding episode of Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinski) in Season 6 of The Office was one of those heartwarming episodes in which the connection and unity among the Dunder Mifflin employees were perfectly visible.

One of the most memorable episodes was supposed to have an unwanted interruption, with Roy Anderson’s (David Denman) confession to Pam during her wedding vows. He was supposed to sit on a horse and enter the church to confess his feelings and win Pam back. The plan never came to fruition due to various reasons, and instead we got the perfect scene of the employees dancing in the aisle, which is still one of the most heartwarming and memorable scenes from The Office.

More on this in our story.

Why was the idea of Roy attending Jim and Pam’s wedding dropped in The Office? Reasons explored

Roy being part of Pam and Jim’s wedding was actually part of earlier scripts. In the Niagara episode of the Office Ladies podcast, Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey were accompanied by co-showrunner Greg Daniels, where they discussed the episode, and also revealed details about Roy’s interruption at the wedding.

Greg revealed that Roy was supposed to enter the church on horseback, led by someone else since he couldn’t ride a horse, and ask Pam to come back to him while Jim and Pam were taking their wedding vows. Angela also revealed how the horse wasn’t even looking in the preferred direction.

After being rejected, the horse would have grabbed Dwight’s attention, who then thought of riding it over the Niagara Falls, which was supposed to end terribly. However, luckily, the plan was dropped, as Greg revealed:

"There was an awful lot of comedy in the script, and I think we had just sort of over stacked the comedy and under stacked the joy and the, you know, because there was just too much bad things happening to poor Pam and Jim."

He continued:

"The amount of- the emotional balance in the episode was off. And also, like, I think the cast was all, you know, they were all friends. And we had done so many episodes of them sort of turning into a family that it was you just didn't want to be that negative and play them all as problems for Pam and Jim, right? So that was sort of the message after the table read."

He also talked about how, while he was still trying to let the horse storyline happen, co-showrunner Paul Lieberstein came up with using the viral YouTube video with the Chris Brown song, Forever, which later became one of the best The Office scenes.

ScreenRant reported that other reasons for cutting the horse storyline included budget constraints, as incorporating the horse stunt would have cost more money. Also, David Denman, who played Roy, was shooting for a movie at the time.

The horse plotline still became a part of The Office

While the horse and Roy could not disrupt Jim and Pam’s wedding, the storyline was featured in another episode in The Office Season 8. In Episode 21, titled Angry Andy, Mindy Kaling’s Kelly begins dating a pediatrician, Ravi, which gets BJ Novak’s Ryan jealous. He tries several silly tactics to make her come back to him, such as reminding her of the memorable times that they spent together.

When it doesn't work, he waits in the parking lot, wearing Indian attire, sitting on a horse, and proposes to Kelly. Although she rejects his proposal by telling him that she loves Ravi, it still turned out into an intimate encounter between the two.
