Mindy Kaling brings you a brand-new basketball comedy on Netflix, titled Running Point, starring How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' fame Kate Hudson. Kaling is best known for her work as a writer and actor in the hit 90's sitcom The Office. The creator of comedies like Never Have I Ever, The Mindy Project, and The Sex Lives of College Girls brings a new comedy with ten episodes on Netflix.

The show is centered around basketball, where a young and rich woman is made president of a basketball team. She must prove to her family that she is worthy of it. Los Angeles Lakers president and co-owner Jeanie Buss and special projects team manager Linda Rambis serve as executive producers on the show.

Running Point finally has a release date

After almost four years since its announcement, Kaling's new comedy finally has a release date. The show will debut on Netflix on February 27, 2025.

Initially, it was reported that Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, David Stassen, and Elaine Ko would create the series for Netflix, but Ko exited in January 2024. Shortly after this creative decision, the show's title was revealed. It will have ten episodes.


Who is in the cast of Running Point?

Golden Globe winner and Academy Award-nominated actress Kate Hudson will lead the show as Isla Gordon. She is best known for her work in the hit 90s rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and also serves as an executive producer on the show.

What is Netflix's Running Point about?

The official synopsis of the show reads as follows:

''When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job.''

The story follows Isla, the only sister in a family of brothers, and hence is overlooked her entire life. But she gets a chance to prove herself in her family business when she gets a chance to step in as the President of the Waves Basketball team after her brother resigns.

The show will explore her journey as she navigates the unchartered waters in the world of sports while constantly navigating the scrutiny of her family. Running Point will explore Isla's journey from a rich and entitled girl to a powerful businesswoman, navigating through the male-dominated world of sports.
