Ever since the S.W.A.T. spin-off S.W.A.T. Exiles was announced, fans had been wondering if the original cast members would be returning for the new show along with Shemar Moore. The upcoming series is going to follow Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson Jr., played by Moore, who leads a team of rookies.

A section of the audience was disappointed about Hondo moving on with a new team, and some even criticized Moore for signing the spin-off without his former co-stars. Keith LeGoy, who is producing the series as the Chairman of Sony Pictures Television, has now talked about whether the original cast members will be returning for the spin-off.

During an appearance at the Banff TV Festival, LeGoy said that the S.W.A.T. actors are like a family to him, and hence, they would appear in S.W.A.T. Exiles at some point. He added that he is figuring out a way to bring them into the spin-off.

During the interaction, Keith LeGoy said that it is not yet finalized which of the cast members will be back, and at what time they will be appearing in S.W.A.T. Exiles:

“There is a S.W.A.T family and that family is important. We would love to have other family members involved in some way, whether it’s all of them all of the time, some of them some of the time, or something in between. That’s something that we are still figuring out.”

S.W.A.T. Exiles was announced by Sony Pictures Television in May 2025, shortly after S.W.A.T. concluded its eight-season run on CBS. However, the spin-off has not been shopped to any network or streamer as of now. Addressing the move, LeGoy said:

“Is there risk? Yes. Did we acknowledge that risk and then kind of embrace it? Yeah. This business was founded 100 and something years ago, on people taking risks on their creative judgment, and on their kind of ability to finance their creative vision in whatever way.”
“I think sometimes we’ve gotten a little too risk averse in this business, we’ve got a little too fear based, and sometimes you need to run towards something which is a little bit scary. But, to be honest, we’re much more excited by the opportunity than we are scared of the risk.”

The show is being created by Jason Ning and will comprise ten episodes. Ning will also serve as an executive producer along with Pavun Shetty, James Scura, Shemar Moore, and Neal H. Mortiz. As of now, only Moore is attached to the project as an actor.

The original series, meanwhile, also starred Jay Harrington as Deacon Kay, Alex Russell as Jim Street, Kenny Johnson as Dominique Luca, David Lim as Victor Tan, Patrick St. Esprit as Robert Hicks, Rochelle Aytes as Nichelle Carmichael, Anna Enger Ritch as Zoe Powell, Niko Pepaj as Miko Alfaro, and Annie Ilonzeh as Devin Gamble.
