Sarah Michelle Gellar drops the alleged title for the Buffy reboot series

In a podcast named Shut Up, Evan, Sarah Michelle Gellar revealed that the title of the Buffy reboot is Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale. However, the storyline of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale is not primarily focused on Buffy. Rather, it is a “continuation” of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There will be more focus on the world in which Buffy now lives.

This new series is also “not picking up” with all the same characters from the beginning. Hence, there is going to be the addition of new characters, which will enhance the overall appeal of the series and add a fresh touch to it. Sarah Michelle Gellar adds that the name of the new series is “important” to her, as the focus of the series is quite different from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

As many of the fans of this series might know, Michelle was initially opposed to the idea of bringing life to Buffy’s character once again. However, now she admits to “never say never” as she has “learned a hard lesson in life”. The main reason she refused to continue with the character was that she “never saw how and why it could be as good” as the original series.

Despite it being years since Buffy the Vampire Slayer was released, the series still maintains its reputation in the world of entertainment for its fresh storyline and unique approach to the world of the supernatural. Sarah Michelle Gellar’s goal was to “hold and honor” the “memory” that they created through the series. She also admits to being “incredibly proud” of the TV show.

Now with Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale’s announcement, viewers are already excited to see the “continuation” of the series, which was a part of growing up for a whole generation, back on the screens with a new storyline. Chloé Zhao will be helming the direction of the pilot episode of the series. She is a longtime dedicated fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

It was Zhao’s passion towards the project, along with a special aspect that first intrigued Sarah Michelle Gellar towards Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale. She admits that Zhao “knew how to go into the world” and “knew the way,” which ultimately became Michelle’s propelling factor, pushing her towards thinking about the possibility of the "continuation". There were multiple “back and forth” between Michelle and Zhao for three years about the show, which added to their time to perfect the series.

The goal was to be completely prepared before dropping the news of the series, as they did not want to “sell” the viewers “the legacy” unprepared. She also adds that the series “will be out there” only when she knows “it’s perfect”. Her words definitely add to the overall intrigue about this series, making the viewers wait patiently for its arrival.
