Although there are currently no plans to revive the Canadian comedy Schitt's Creek, creator Dan Levy (who developed the show alongside Eugene Levy) made a suggestion on a potential Schitt's Creek comeback. As revealed during his appearance on the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen show, the sudden reappearance of the iconic motel sign also caught him off guard. Since the show's popularity, Levy's career has expanded beyond Schitt's Creek, but he stated he would still be open to going back to it.
Running from 2015 to 2020, the show centers on the Rose family, who were previously prosperous but lost all they owned after being duped. Following this, the family adapts to a simpler lifestyle while staying at a dilapidated motel.
After being made available on Netflix, Schitt's Creek became well-known and received praise for its humor, writing, and acting. Its last season made television history for a comedy series and took home many major Emmy Awards.
More about Schitt's Creek revival
Five years after Schitt's Creek ended its six-season run, creator and actor Dan Levy has given fans optimism by hinting at a renewal. While no formal plans have been announced, recent events and Levy's statements indicate that the iconic comedy series may return—if the perfect concept comes along.
When fans saw that the famous "Rosebud Motel" sign had returned to the original Canadian filming location, rumors started to circulate. Many speculated that development on a new season or special would be in progress when the sign, which had been taken down after the program concluded in 2020, abruptly reappeared.
During a November 2023 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Dan Levy addressed these rumors directly. He said,
“I would love to say yes, but I have no idea what it’s doing there. It was just as much a surprise to me as it was to you.”
While he did not confirm any ongoing project, Levy admitted he often thinks about returning to Schitt’s Creek and even has “a kernel of an idea” for a possible continuation.
Before becoming an Emmy-winning writer, director, and actor, Dan Levy worked as an MTV Canada presenter. His major break came with Schitt's Creek, which he co-created with his father, the famous actor Eugene Levy. Although not quite known about initially, the show quickly gained popularity after being picked up by Netflix, becoming a global sensation and sweeping the 2020 Emmy Awards. It took a total of nine Emmy awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series. Following the success of Schitt's Creek, his career has advanced dramatically.
In 2023, he wrote, directed, and performed in the drama Good Grief. He also made an appearance in the Kristen Stewart-starrer romantic comedy Happiest Season in 2020.
Fans are excited to see Levy return to the universe he helped create, even if his career in film and television is still booming.
When asked about revisiting the show, Levy explained that he wants any revival to be meaningful. He added,
“I don’t want to disappoint the show, and I don’t want to disappoint the fans. It’s easy to take a check and do something, but I care about it too much.”
For the time being, there is no news of a formal revival of the show, but Levy's statements have kept the possibility open. Fans may watch all six seasons of Schitt's Creek on Hulu and Prime Video as they wait to find out what happens next.
