The show swirls its camera on domestic life, control, and silence when a Filipino au pair disappears without any visible trace.

Built on a layer of tension, mistrust, and emotional complication, Secrets We Keep boasts a gripping ensemble. Here’s a quicker look at who’s who in Netflix’s Danish thriller drama series.

Secrets We Keep cast and character guide

Marie Bach Hansen as Cecilie

At the core of Secrets We Keep is Cecilie, a mom and a wife whose outwardly picture-perfect life comes undone as she pries into her missing neighbour’s vanishing.

Played with intensity by actor Marie Bach Hansen, Cecilie is a character who is caught amid her morality and the shielded comfort of her upper-class/elite circle.

Hansen carefully brings Cecilie’s unravelling personal world to life—her snowballing suspicion, sadness, and seclusion feel extremely lived-in.

Cecilie is not an investigator, but her drive to challenge her nearby areas—even when that sometimes comes with a cost of her questioning her own husband—moves the story forward.

In Secrets We Keep, she brings a vibe that thrives on being duplicity vulnerable and having the most amount of resilience.

Her character brings a layered exploration of involvement and self-duplicity, steering the show with a whole lot of depth as secrets begin to surface around her.

Hansen’s previously worked in The Legacy.

Simon Sears as Mike

Simon Sears brings a muted but disturbing energy to the character of Mike, Cecilie’s husband. On the outside, Mike is an elegant, prosperous attorney—but below is a man more and more visible by his choices.

In Secrets We Keep, Sears plays Mike as a husband who treasures the most amount of control and appearance above everything else. He does not shout, but his quietness and vagueness say everything they need to.

Sears’s character never moves into him being melodramatic, and that’s what makes Mike so uneasy —he’s real and he’s intimidating in a quiet manner.

Mike’s refusal to defy privilege or accept any amount of accountability adds more than enough complexity to the morality of the show. He is known for his role in Shadow and Bone.

His relationship with Cecilie is layered, offering some of the most intense moments on Secrets We Keep.

Danica Curcic as Katarina

Katarina is far, far away from being reduced to a background character in Secrets We Keep. Portrayed by Danica Curcic, Katarina is a strong presence whose instability makes her out to be charming and unnerving at the same time.

As Rasmus’s wife and Cecilie’s friend, Katarina is thrown around in various directions— faithfulness, societal image, as well as denial.

However, Curcic immerses in these roles with the extremist amounts of contradictions: Katarina is polite one second and then she’s defensive the very next, then she’s suddenly borderline ruthless.

Known for her role in The Chestnut Man, Curcic directs all of her experience into making Katarina out to be emotionally unstable and morally vague.

Her scenes, in particular, very often hold stiffness in the pauses, in the way she perhaps rolls out a phrase, or when she glances. As Cecilie’s doubts increase, Katarina slowly becomes much harder to read, and that ambiguity is a big part of what makes Curcic’s act feel so interesting. There’s always a sense that she’s not letting everything be out in the open, which adds layers on top of layers to her character.

Lars Ranthe as Rasmus

Lars Ranthe, known for his work on his project Another Round, melts fully into the role of Rasmus, the compelling and cold neighbour living next door.

In Secrets We Keep, Rasmus symbolises the upper crust when it is at its most impenitent. He’s a character who is erected on money, influence, and power —all of the traits Ranthe brings out with a disarming grin and a bone-chilling authority to his character.

His ability to swerve suspicion, manipulate his way out of things, and protect his family from being scrutinized makes him a silently alarming character.

Rasmus adapts himself to a certain breed of individuals who thrive in stillness and from within the shadows, and Ranthe doesn’t let a scene he’s in without fleshing the character out the much as he can.

Whether he’s giving out nonchalant comments or doing something else with Cecilie, Ranthe’s representation keeps viewers always wanting to question what his actual motives are.

His act is a deliberate mix of allure and threat —exactly what Secrets We Keep needs in a character who might know more than he’s actually letting on.

Supporting Cast

Secrets We Keep profits immensely from its supporting cast. Excel Busano carries a touching performance as Angel, Cecilie’s ardent au pair.

Donna Levkovski, though on screen for smaller moments as Ruby, leaves a long-running impression, symbolising fear and brittleness in her few scenes.

Lukas Zuperka is a standout character as Viggo, Cecilie’s son, offering silent yet strong scenes that replicate the show’s emotional core.

Frode Bilde Rønsholt brings out the intricacy of Oscar, whose actions raise worrying questions.

And at last, we have Sara Fanta Traore as Aicha, the obstinate investigator who defies the complacency of the system with a calm strength of mind.

Secrets We Keep creates its tension not with the help of explosive big ‘gotcha!’ moments but with characters slowly lighting up the cracks in their cautiously built lives.

Each actor intensifies the show and the themes of privilege and complicity. With this cast, Secrets We Keep turns out to be more than just a mystery—it’s a study in what people you surround yourself with hide, and the dangerous price of turning your back away.
