Ballard, Prime Video's latest detective drama, is coming to the platform on July 9, 2025. Prime Video has just released its trailer, which describes the show as:
"From Bosch creator Michael Connelly comes a new character - cold case detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q). An investigator known for her determination, empathy, and ability to uncover conspiracies."

Fans are speaking highly of Ballard and its main lead, Maggie Q
Ballard comes from the creator of Bosch, Michael Connelly, and is thus part of the Bosch universe. We even see Harry Bosch (played by Titus Welliver) in the trailer briefly as he has a conversation with Renée. Renée says:
"I miss homicide. Somehow I think, if I prove myself in cold cases, then maybe things could go back to the way they were."
To that, Harry says:
"The way things were, might not exist anymore."

The trailer is receiving a lot of appreciation from viewers, and many are speaking highly of Maggie Q's performance and screen presence. One fan (@ArkaneXombie) commented:
"She doesn't age. 😲"

Another fan (@annamariaavolio9208) talked about their love for the books which inspired the show, and praised Maggie Q, saying:
"Loved the books, Ballard is so cool and she is the perfect choice for the role."

We won't know if Maggie is perfect for the role or not until the show airs next month, but the trailer does look promising.

Other than the finale of Bosch: Legacy finale, Maggie Q was last seen in a television role in Pivoting, back in 2022. Hence, it has been some time since fans have seen her on screen, and they are evidently excited to see her in the upcoming Prime Video show.
One fan (@etraziel) commented:
"Maggie Q will never not be a force of nature."

Fans are more than eager to see Maggie Q in the upcoming Prime Video show.

As to what to expect from the show, the Amazon MGM Studios describes it as a show:
"... following Detective Renée Ballard (Q) as she leads the LAPD's new and underfunded cold case division, tackling the city’s most challenging long-forgotten crimes with empathy and relentless determination. As she peels back layers of crimes spanning decades, including a serial killer's string of murders and a murdered John Doe, she soon uncovers a dangerous conspiracy within the LAPD. With the help of her volunteer team and retired detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), Detective Ballard navigates personal trauma, professional challenges, and life-threatening dangers to expose the truth."
All ten episodes of the show will be released on Prime Video on July 9, 2025.
