Over a year since Ted Lasso concluded its third season on Apple TV+, the hype around the series hasn't quite fizzled out. And now, it's picked back up again, thanks to some nice words from Hannah Waddingham. AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton's actress, Hannah Wddingham, was making waves after appearing at the 2025 Monte Carlo Television Festival, where she spoke about identifying with the character, saying, "She's in my bloodstream."

According to Variety, she said,

"I was hankering and hankering and hankering and hankering to see where Rebecca had gone, where she was going to. She’s my girl. She’s in my bloodstream, so I’m thrilled that it’s been exhumed.”

Even though the statement was not intended to leak any official news, it was done at a time when it was announced that Ted Lasso is indeed returning for a fourth season.

Waddingham wouldn't leak plot lines or premiere dates, but she was invested in the role on a deep emotional level. Speaking to Variety, she discussed how Rebecca's story, one of vulnerability, leadership, and rebirth, had touched her personally. The statement was worded as a reflection and not a spoiler, but it happened on the heels of Apple TV+'s announcement to release the next season. Coincidence? Perhaps.

Ted Lasso is back for Season 4

In March of 2025, Apple TV+ made the announcement: Ted Lasso was coming back for season 4. This followed an abundance of speculation and rumor over the past months, built on cryptic cast interviews and the implicit expectation of the showmakers. Even though the platform hasn't released any hard information yet regarding plot or release time, the announcement itself has set the murmurs going again.

Both Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, Ted and Coach Beard, had previously indicated the door was never closed. Now, it is open wide once again. The announcement puts to rest the age-old debate on whether the show had ended or was simply on hiatus. And though fans are still waiting for details, the comeback of the hit comedy-drama is now all but set in stone.

Waddingham's words reflect sentiment, not spoilers

So what did Hannah Waddingham actually say, then? For her own part, Rebecca Welton is still an enormous presence in her life. "She's in my bloodstream," she explained, of the character as one she's not yet ready to let go of. But her tone was nostalgic rather than sensational. She didn't spill script secrets or confirm filming. Rather, she discussed how playing the character has impacted her personally and professionally.

That emotional resonance sounded clear and loud. Rebecca's transformation from nightclub cynic to humanitarian leader is perhaps the best thing about the show. No wonder Waddingham is still attached to her. Even as a fourth season is in development, though, she was hesitant to confirm whether Rebecca would be back, or how.

Cast energy points to a collective return in Ted Lasso season 4

Waddingham is not the only cast member to have expressed wanting to continue with the story. Jason Sudeikis and Juno Temple (Keeley Jones) have looked back at their characters as well and said they'd be game for their return. No one has spouted secrets about what is to come, or revealed they're returning in any particular part, but what there is is a common thread: there remains life left within this world.

Even without definite details, that kind of energy from the cast gives the revival some credibility. It suggests the fourth season won't be some wishy-washy token gesture by the network but something everyone involved on the key team is genuinely invested in.

Apple TV+ keeps the plot of Ted Lasso season 4 under wraps

Although they've formally signed off on Season 4, Apple TV+ hasn't indicated the new storyline or production timeline. No teasers, no trailers; not even a tagline has been revealed. The platform has so far remained mum since announcing it, leaving plenty of room for speculation. Until more information is shared, Waddingham's statement will probably be steering the discussion, more emotional than factual, but impactful nonetheless.

The makers of the show have not talked much about it. Nothing has been discussed so far as to whether they will pick up from where they left off or take a new direction. The ambiguity is intentional, but it raises questions among fans instead of providing answers.

Briefly, Ted Lasso Season 4 is underway, but barely for Rebecca Welton. Monte Carlo musings from Hannah Waddingham were not meant to be a spoiler, but they certainly had an effect. Her emotional connection to the character is a reflection of the power that the show holds over the cast and its audience. What she shared gave a personal angle to already exciting news.

Until further news breaks, fans will just have to make do with what is now established: the saga goes on. How and with whom is still an exercise in patience.
