ABC’s highly anticipated upcoming comedy, Shifting Gears, marks the return of the iconic Tim Allen to sitcoms.
Three years after Last Man Standing aired its finale, Allen will be returning in this multi-camera sitcom along with Two Broke Girls fame Kat Dennings and American Pie alum Seann William.
After a pilot order in March, ABC handed a series order for Shifting Gears in July. Though Allen is a well-known name in the industry of sitcoms, the presence of a movie star like Seann William Scott essentially increases the show's appeal.
What is Shifting Gears about?
Shifting Gears follows Matt, played by Tim Allen, a stubborn recent widower, who works in the field of restoring classic cars.
He is then joined by his estranged daughter, Riley, played by Kat Dennings, and her kids. Together, as a family, they try to rebuild broken relationships.
Who is in the cast and crew of Shifting Gears?
Tim Allen is the central figure in the series and plays the role of Matt,
“The stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop.”
He is best known for his roles in Home Improvement, The Santa Clauses, and Last Man Standing.
Kat Dennings of Two Broke Girls fame joins Allen as his estranged daughter Riley, who moves in with him with her teenage kids. Seann William Scott will also be a series regular in the role of Gabriel, who is a
“Family friend of Matt and Riley who works in the shop with Matt.”
He has been cast in place of the character of Nick, who appeared in the pilot. Since Welcome to Flatch, this show would be Scott’s first role in TV.
Besides them, the series also stars:
Daryl “Chill” Mitchell of NCIS: New Orleans fame as Stitch, who is a mechanic at the shop and a former marine
- Maxwell Simkins of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers fame as Riley’s kid, Carter
- Barrett Margolis, a newcomer, as Riley’s other kid, Georgia.
Michelle Nader is the showrunner of Shifting Gears. She succeeded Julie Thacker Scully and Mike Scully, who served as executive producers and writers as the pilot.
Executive producers of the show include Nader, Marty Adelstein, Allen, Becky Clements, Jim Patterson, Richard Baker, Bob Daily, Rick Messina, John Amodeo, and John Pasquin.
