Shōgun Season 2 is here with good news for fans, as the TV series has added Japanese actor Ren Meguro to its cast. The news was first confirmed by Variety. Adapted from a novel by James Clavell, the series features Cosmo Jarvis, Anna Sawai, and Tadanobu Asano in the main cast. Shōgun became a big hit after its release, earning over an 8-star rating on IMDb.

The synopsis given on IMDb’s official site says:

"When a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby Japanese fishing village, Lord Yoshii Toranaga discovers secrets that could tip the scales of power and devastate his enemies."

While Ren Meguro is now confirmed to be part of the series, IMDb has not yet added his name to the cast list. MyDramaList is also not showing the update for now, which might change once the platforms refresh their information.

Still, the news has made Ren Meguro’s fans happy, especially those who have been waiting to see him on a big screen.

What role will Ren Meguro play in Shōgun Season 2?

Meguro will reportedly step into the role of Kazutada in Shōgun Season 2, according to Variety. Talking about the role, he said in a statement to the outlet:

"I am incredibly honored to join the cast of ‘Shogun’ season two. When I streamed ‘Shogun’ on Disney+ last year, I was profoundly moved by the series’ unique and grand portrayal of Japan, which felt different from past portrayals. As a Japanese person, I felt a compelling urge to be part of this groundbreaking production."

He continued:

"I am committed to honoring the legacy that so many have built before me and to carefully shaping the role entrusted to me in this remarkable series. I can’t wait for everyone to see the release of ‘Shogun’ Season 2 and to share in this incredible journey with us."

Season 2 takes place ten years after the first one and brings viewers back to the two men whose lives are still closely connected, even though they come from very different backgrounds. From the synopsis, we can believe that it will focus more on the choices they will make and how they will lead to other consequences. Additionally, we might also see some changing bonds and twists to hook the viewers.

All the new faces joining Shōgun season 2

Along with Ren Meguro, the other new faces joining Shōgun Season 2 are Jun Kunimura, Asami Mizukawa, Sho Kaneta, Masataka Kubota, and Takaaki Enoki.

According to Forbes, filming for the next season is expected to begin next year. This means the new chapter could take two to three years to fully complete, as the series needs time and the same detailing that made the first season stand out.

Since there’s no confirmed release date yet, viewers may have to wait longer than they expected. And with Season 1 being such a big hit, the team will likely avoid rushing the process, making sure they don’t spoil the quality by pushing for an early release.
