Apple TV+ officially renewed Foundation for a season 4 ahead of its season 3 release, which dropped globally on Friday, September 12, 2025. Recent reports confirm that the production of Season 4 will begin in the initial months of 2026 and continue the story inspired by Isaac Asimov's legendary book sequel. The show is produced by Paramount Television Studios and remains one of Apple TV's top shows to date, as per Rotten Tomatoes.

According to the recent report by Collider, Lee Pace has commented on the renewal news, admitting that he was "shocked" by the finale twist and the fate of this character in season 3. He also confirmed that pre-production of the next chapter has begun.

“We’re just working out the next season right now. Of course, we want to top the third season because that’s what Isaac Asimov did in those books.

As mentioned, Evan Lee Pace, who plays Brother Day in Foundation, revealed that given the season 3 finale ending, there is more to his character, and the team has already begun working on season 4.

"But I was shocked that the season ended the way it did… I think it’s interesting to see where the story will go. I’m very excited about what my character is going to do next season.” Lee added.

Given the renewal of season 4, more fresh narratives are meant to unfold in the Cleon Dynasty. Brother Day is the middle clone in the genetic line of the Cleon Dynasty and is also the active ruler of the Galactic Empire.

The show portrays the journey of a group of exiles who believe that the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it. The show is about the cyclic nature of civilization when looked at from a cosmic scale. Foundation, until now, has set a high standard in terms of production values, design, and storytelling, and season 4 is expected to continue the legacy.

Here is what the showrunners of Foundation have to say about the renewal

Co-showrunners and executive producers Ian Goldberg and David Kob expressed their excitement about continuing the story to Apple TV Press.

“There is no series quite like Foundation, and we feel lucky and honored to be carrying the torch forward as co-showrunners into season four. We look forward to continuing the epic, emotional storytelling that defined the first three seasons.”

Matt Cherniss, Apple TV+’s head of programming, also added,

“With each new season, the excitement around this trailblazing sci-fi epic just keeps building due to the bold storytelling and collective artistry of this extraordinarily talented cast and creative team.”

Season 4 will continue to play with the philosophical DNA and explore themes of legacy and replication, showing how the actions of one Day ripple across generations, even if the man himself doesn’t survive in the traditional sense. Pace Lee and the other creative team have started working on the narrative for season 4.

Foundation remains one of the top trending shows of Apple TV+, alongside some prestigious shows like Silo and Severance.
