The hilarious Apple TV+ series, Shrinking, comes with its own brand of humor and heart. From the aspect of therapists getting personally involved in their patients' lives to getting in complicated situations when things go wrong, Shrinking is truly a series worth investing your time in.
The storyline is fresh, which keeps the viewers hooked throughout. There is no doubt that the series is character-driven, focusing much of the storyline on Jimmy Laird’s character. Hence, the cast plays a vital role in making the show such a hit.
Shrinking cast and character guide
1) Jason Segel as Jimmy Laird

For Jason Segel’s Jimmy Laird, the ethical boundaries that a therapist should follow while interacting with patients do not exist. As a therapist, Laird’s task is to help his patients navigate through their problems. However, instead of just giving that, he takes it to the next level by giving his personal opinions as well. This leads to a series of humorous situations that he has to tackle.
Jason Segel is undoubtedly a competent actor. His ability to bring life to any character he takes on is truly remarkable. If you enjoyed his brilliant performance in this series, then do not forget to also watch Freaks and Geeks, How I Met Your Mother, Mooned, etc. He brings his perfection to these projects as well.
2) Jessica Williams as Gaby Evans

Just like Jimmy, Jessica Williams’ Gaby has her own set of troubles. Just as Jimmy goes through a difficult time after his wife’s death, Gabby suffers too. Her life takes a turn after her divorce.
Jessica Williams is a star in bringing Gabby’s complex yet fun-filled character to life. Some of her other works that deserve a spot in your watchlist are Love Life, Road House, and many more.
3) Harrison Ford as Dr. Paul Rhoades

Suffering from Parkinson’s disease definitely takes a toll on one's body, and Harrison Ford perfectly depicts this aspect through Dr. Paul Rhoades' character in Shrinking. Unlike Jimmy, Dr. Paul Rhoades is extremely strict when boundaries are concerned. As a fellow therapist, his interactions with Jimmy are filled with a distinct level of humor and banter.
Harrison Ford’s addition to this series takes it to the next level. Not just limited to acting, there is nothing that Harrison Ford can't do. Just like his other works in Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and many more, his performance in this series is phenomenal.
4) Michael Urie as Brian

Jimmy’s best friend might add laughter to Jimmy’s life but is often considered a narcissistic person for his behavior, which he himself also admits time and again. Michael Urie makes Brian’s character authentic with a distinct layer of realism.
Through the years, he took on a multitude of projects. He worked both as a main character and in supporting roles. Some of his notable works include Ugly Betty, Partners, Younger, and many more.
5) Lukita Maxwell as Alice Laird

Teenagers often have strained relationships with their parents; sometimes it is a phase, and sometimes it is more than that. For Lukia Maxwell’s Alice Laird, her strained relationship with her father, Jimmy, definitely involves more complications than meets the eye.
Their relationship seems to take a better direction as the story progresses. Lukita Maxwell’s other projects that also show her versatility are Generation, Speechless, etc.
6) Christa Miller as Liz

Famed for her works in The Drew Carey Show, Cougar Town, Clone High, and many more, Christa Miller’s acting talent is truly remarkable.
In this series, she takes on the role of Liz, who often takes care of Alice, especially when Jimmy is unable to do so. As their neighbor, she is a considerate woman with a heart of gold.
Other cast members of the series include
- Ted McGinley as Derek, Liz's husband
- Luke Tennie as Sean, one of Jimmy's patients
- Heidi Gardner as Grace, another one of Jimmy's patients
- Lilan Bowden as Tia, Jimmy's deceased spouse
