Apple TV has greenlit Silo Season 4, along with Season 3, after the show performed well in its first two seasons. Based on Hugh Howey’s Silo trilogy, the series was created by Graham Yost and premiered in May 2023.

The show is set in a dystopian future where 10,000 people live inside a massive underground silo that stretches 144 levels deep. Rebecca Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer who starts uncovering the disturbing truths hidden within their tightly controlled society.

Since season two premiered on November 15, 2024, and wrapped up on January 17, 2025, fans are now looking ahead to seasons three and four. In recent news, cinematographer Baz Irvine has revealed that Silo Season 4 is preparing to start production.

Silo Season 4 production news by Baz Irvine

Silo has been a success in the sci-fi genre thanks to its world-building, emotional storytelling, and slow-burning plotlines. The show features an ensemble cast including Rashida Jones, Common, Avi Nash, Chinaza Uche, Tim Robbins, Harriet Walter, David Oyelowo, Clare Perkins, and Steve Zahn, among others.

Season two ended with several twists, and its positive reviews led Apple TV+ to greenlight both Silo Season 4 and season three. That decision ensures that the full story from Howey’s books, Wool, Shift, and Dust, can be told completely. What’s more promising is that the final two seasons are being filmed almost back-to-back together. This ensures many fewer delays between seasons and keeps the fans interested.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Baz Irvine, who served as director of photography for the first two seasons, confirmed that season three has finished filming and season four is up next. He said,

“Three is actually just finished,”

He continued,

“But, interestingly I met the director, Michael Dinner, who I worked with on season two … he made the decision to stay on and do season three and season four, [and] they’re actually about to start season four.”

This means production is staying on schedule, and fans won’t have to wait too long for Silo Season 4 after season three comes out. However, Irvine himself will not be returning to shoot Silo Season 4, or even season 3. He explained the reason, saying,

“So, no, I didn’t go back to season three,”
“It was such an incredibly long stint, season two, because I was the lead DOP, so I came in 12 weeks early to do prep. I also had to contend with COVID, the actors’ strike, [and] the writers’ strike. And what happened was, what would’ve been like about a nine-month commitment—which was already a really long commitment—ended up being 15 months.”

He also opened up about how physically and mentally demanding the shoot had been, given the dark, closed-off environments. Irvine said,

“Also, a lot of that time is spent in subterranean sets, going slightly crazy due to lack of sunlight. I think I had the scurvy, or one of old-fashioned diseases,”

Despite his decision to step away, Irvine believes it’s good for the show to bring in new creative minds.

“I think, when you do a stint like that, you have to question if you’re the right person for the project to go forward next time,” he added. “And I think Silo is a great example of a show where it probably does actually benefit [to have] a new set of eyes and a new DOP come in, just to mark the difference and variation you need from season to season to make a show progress. That was my rationale, and also, I wanted to experience some other things.”

As of now, there’s no confirmed release date for season 3, though it’s expected sometime in early 2026. Since Silo Season 4 starts production soon, fans will likely get season four soon after season three.
