Sirens is a haunting show that pulls you in from the first episode. It touches upon family trauma, secrets, and grief. It tells the story of two sisters, and there's so much depth to it. There's guilt, abandonment, and truths that refuse to stay buried for long.
Sirens is so gripping because of how it manages to reveal human nature layer by layer. There's an almost hypnotic touch to it. Each episode deepens the plot even more, and Episode 5 is where the mask is ripped off.
Devon and Simone are estranged sisters who are at the heart of the story. Devon's been the one who has been holding down the fort. She takes care of their father who's sick. Simone's location isn't revealed at first. However, when flowers are dropped off at Devon's doorsteps, she decides to give her little sister a visit and that's when we're taken to the island.
Simone has been off living as an assistant to Michaela Kell, the second wife of Peter Kell in Sirens. The Kells are a known family in Port Haven. We barely know anything about Simone’s life in the beginning. We only know that she's loved by Michaela but hated by the house staff.
Ever since the reunion, truths start slipping through the cracks. And in Episode 5, those truths come to light.
Sirens: When the hunter becomes the haunted

Episode 5 wastes no time throwing us into the aftermath of that literal cliffhanger. We pick up in the hospital where Simone is next to Ethan who was once her beau. He survived the fall, but barely. And oh, the charm’s worn off. He calls her a “witch” now.
Next we see Simone and Devon actually talk like sisters for the first time in Sirens. Simone opens up about finally getting her life in order. She tells Devon about the new job offer and how she would now be earning enough to help their dad. Devon, then, would get a break and be able to sail away with Captain Morgan. For a second, you think maybe this family would find peace again.
But Michaela, after finding that damning photo of Simone kissing Peter, feels betrayed and just fires Simone. She donates her thing and literally clears her off the island. And just like that, Simone’s dreams of having an actual job and a life of her own, crumbles.
Jose drives Simone, Devon, and Bruce toward the ferry. But Simone, who is visibly shaken by the turn of events, runs back. It’s not over yet.
At Michaela’s party, Devon confronts Michaela about Jocelyn’s “disappearance,” and Michaela reveals that Jocelyn’s alive. But she's living in exile after a cosmetic procedure that went wrong.
Things gets worse. Peter finally says what we all suspected. He’s done with Michaela. He wants Simone. He wants another divorce, and another wife. All over again. And just like that, he "appoints" Simone as the new Mrs. Kell. Michaela’s empire is no more.
Devon, watching all of this, doesn’t follow her sister but wishes her well. She leaves the island, bitter and betrayed. But as fate would have it, she’s not the only one leaving with her heart broken. Michaela boards the ferry, too.
Their exchange is one of the most meaningful moments of Sirens. Devon apologizes and Michaela forgives her. She tells Michaela that she is not a monster and Michaela, referring to Simone, says:
"Neither is she."
Michaela also advises Devon to cash that $10,000 check.
The final shot in Sirens is Simone, now perched above the ocean in the very cliff house Michaela once ruled. It is the very shot we saw at the beginning with Michaela. She’s calm and poised. Maybe victorious. Maybe just very, very alone.
