Fans of Netflix's Sirens weren't the only ones surprised by all of the Emmy buzz it has gained. Meghann Fahy, who plays Devon DeWitt in the Netflix mini-drama, admitted that getting the news of her nomination caught her completely off guard.

On Late Night With Seth Meyers, she confessed there hadn't been "even one conversation" about awards for the show on her team. So how exactly did she find out?

Let's just say it was a moment as twisty as any plot twist.

The surprise Sirens Emmy phone call that changed Meghann Fahy's day

When Emmy nominations for 2025 were announced, Fahy wasn't constantly refreshing her phone or being glued to the TV. She was in the middle of filming a scene when her phone suddenly lit up with an unexpected call from her team. Thinking it was unusual for them to ring during work hours, she picked up.

Fahy told Seth Meyers on his show,

"They started screaming...And then someone on set yelled, 'And action!' So I just said, 'Bye!' and hung up."

Fahy laughed as she described the moment as being "anticlimactic" but unforgettable.

This year's nomination marks her second Emmy recognition, following her supporting actress nomination as Daphne Sullivan for The White Lotus Season 2.

For Sirens, she's the only acting nominee, though the show itself secures nominations for contemporary costumes, directing, and picture editing in the limited series category.

Despite the nomination for Sirens, Fahy remains grounded.

"It was very unexpected..."

She repeated, still sounding as though she was processing the news.

Working along with Julianne Moore in Sirens

The series puts Meghan Fahy opposite Julianne Moore, who plays Michaela Kell: a cult leader with a magnetic charm that's hard to resist. Fahy's character, Devon, walks straight into Michaela's coastal retreat determined to save her younger sister Simone, played by Milly Alcock.

But in their first scene together, Devon had to look Michaela straight in the eye and call her a "bit*h."

Fahy recalled,

"And I was like, 'Okay, throwing me in the deep end. I like your style."

She went on to joke that if Moore really did lead a cult,

"I would be in that cult."

Meyers admitted he'd probably join too, laughing that in most shows you're meant to distrust the cult leader, but here,

"I might be down with most of this."

The five-episode mini Netflix series may have looked like an unexpected runner in the Emmy race, but Fahy's raw performance as Devon after all sure did leave a mark.

Meghann Fahy's work not only highlights her work as Devon, but it also brings more attention to a mini-series on Netflix that takes a deeper look at themes like trauma, loyalty, and survival.

Meghann Fahy's Emmy nomination for Sirens is proof that sometimes the most impactful performances come at the most unexpected paces.

Her being caught off-guard, her humor, and humility mirror the show itself. Whether or not Fahy takes home the award, the nomination places her as one of TV's most compelling leading female actors in recent times, and it also gives Sirens the recognition it deserves.
