Slow Horses Season 6: Everything we know so far about the upcoming chapter of the Gary Oldman series

Slow Horses Season 6 was renewed by Apple TV+ back in October 2024, according to Deadline, and fans of the British spy thriller series have been awaiting its arrival ever since.

Based on the Slough House series of novels by Mick Herron, the suspenseful show features Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, and others. The show is created by Will Smith and Slow Horses Season 6 will continue to explore the world of espionage and crime.

The show’s central focus is around the Slough House, which is an MI5 unit where banished agents are sent and are now known as slow horses. While the head of this unit is Jackson Lamb (Oldman), who keeps the agents occupied with routine tasks, some of the agents decide to solve dangerous cases.

Slow Horses Season 6 does not have a confirmed release date yet but it will likely come out in fall or winter 2026 according to Decider. The show has followed a one season per year tradition until now and is expected to follow with the new season as well. More on this story below.

Details about Slow Horses Season 6

According to Deadline, Slow Horses Season 6 will focus on Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) and the slow horses agents, who get embroiled into even more dangerous missions because of Diana. Further, the sixth season will adapt Herron’s novels called Joe Country and Slough House. These two novels by Herron form the sixth and seventh book in the series. According to Decider, Herron has written nine full-length novels in his Slough House series.

According to Decider, Slow Horses Season 6 will likely have six episodes like its earlier seasons. Further, the previous showrunner, Will Smith, has stepped down according to Screen Rant. While Gaby Chiappe will lead Slow Horses Season 6, Ben Vanstone will lead Season 7. Screen Rant also confirms that Slow Horses Season 6 is in the process of post-production and Gary Oldman confirmed that the filming has finished and Season 7 will film in late October 2025.

Regarding cast members, Gary Oldman will be back as Jackson Lamb and other cast members like Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christopher Chung, Tom Brooke, and others will also be back.

And it seems that fans and Apple TV+ cannot get enough of the British spy thriller show as not only has Slow Horses Season 6 been confirmed, but Season 7 has also been renewed in July 2025, according to Decider. The press release for Season 7 mentions according to Decider, “In Season 7, Lamb and his Slow Horses are on the hunt to find and neutralize a mole at the heart of British Government before they can bring down the state.” Therefore, fans of the show can be rest assured that more espionage thrills are on its way.

Recap of Slow Horses Season 5

In Season 5 of the show, Tara Younis honey-traps Claude Whelan and Tara demands that she speak to Diana Taverner. Tara now wants 100 million pounds and Diana tells Claude that he gets in touch with the PM so that Tara does not harm any other people with her terrorist attacks.

However, Diana also finds out that the terrorists are linked to Peter Judd, who is the ex-home secretary of the country. Tara is aided by Farouk and Kamal, and the two are killed by the Slough House agents, who come into action. On the other hand, Lamb is two steps ahead and arrests Tara.

Towards the end, Sami, who is one of the terrorists, attacks Claude and holds him at gunpoint. Lamb had anticipated this due to Claude’s political policies on Libya and sent River to save him. Ultimately, River shoots Sami and saves Claude.

Claude however, blames the Libyan terrorist attacks on Jackson Lamb and therefore, wants to shut down Slough House. However, Lamb has proof of Claude’s notorious past with escorts and Claude has to resign and take responsibility for the attacks. Diana becomes the new MI5 director and as the synopsis for Slow Horses Season 6 notes, she will direct the agents into new and even more high-stakes missions.
