More about Smoke
Created by Dennis Lehane, Smoke marks Lehane's reunion with Taron Egerton, as they previously collaborated on another limited series on Apple TV+ called Black Bird. Like their earlier work, Smoke is based on the true story of two serial arsonists and draws from the podcast Firebud as its source material. While some creative liberties have been taken, the core facts remain largely the same.
Taron Egerton stars as Dave Gudsen, who investigates arson cases alongside Jurnee Smollett’s Detective Michelle Calderon. Other cast members include Rafe Spall, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Hannah Emily Anderson, John Leguizamo, and Greg Kinnear, among others.
Besides the shocking true story that the show depicts, another key aspect of Smoke is its complex characters. The two main characters, Dave and Michelle, are both seen fighting their demons while balancing their personal and professional lives. They can’t be described as entirely good or bad, and it is the moral grey area that makes them so compelling to watch.
Smoke can be streamed on Apple TV+.
