Somebody Somewhere returned for its third and final season on HBO in October 2024, bringing Bridget Everett’s personal comedy-drama to a close. Set once again in Manhattan, Kansas, the story continues to follow Sam Miller, a woman in her forties trying to rebuild her life after her sister’s death while leaning on family, old friends, and new connections.

Somebody Somewhere Season 3 picks up with Sam navigating both change and possibility. Her bond with Joel is stronger than ever, and her relationship with her sister Tricia evolves in unexpected ways.

The final chapter of Somebody Somewhere also introduces new characters alongside the familiar faces. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson joins as Iceland, a renter at the Miller family farm whose presence stirs new feelings for Sam. Jeff Hiller returns as Joel, now moving forward with Brad, played by Tim Bagley, while still wrestling with his faith and his friendship with Sam.

Mary Catherine Garrison continues as Tricia, fresh from her divorce and building her own independence. Murray Hill is back as Fred Rococo, and Jennifer Mudge returns as Susan.

Bridget Everett as Sam Miller

Bridget Everett leads the series once again as Sam, the character based loosely on her own life. Sam begins Season 3 trying to accept change rather than fight it, whether it’s volunteering at an animal shelter, letting go of her late sister’s truck, or opening up to new romance.

Her friendship with Joel remains the show’s backbone, and her bond with Tricia deepens as they face their shared grief more openly. Everett not only stars but also co-wrote episodes, making Sam’s journey feel grounded and specific to the Midwest setting.

Jeff Hiller as Joel

Joel, played by Jeff Hiller, starts the season moving in with Brad, bringing both security and tension to his personal life. His storyline explores his complicated relationship with religion, particularly when he reconnects with Pastor Deb. Despite his romantic commitments, his friendship with Sam continues to define his growth. Hiller’s performance balances Joel’s quiet insecurities with moments of joy, cementing him as the show’s emotional anchor.

Mary Catherine Garrison as Tricia Miller

Mary Catherine Garrison returns as Tricia, Sam’s sister, now divorced from Rick and rebuilding her independence. She leans into her small business success while adjusting to life as an empty nester. Season 3 gives Tricia more space, showing her confronting, for the first time, grief over their late sister Holly, and her evolving bond with Sam becomes one of the most moving arcs in the finale.

Murray Hill as Fred Rococo

Murray Hill continues as Fred Rococo, the soil scientist and community emcee whose humor and warmth have been staples of the series. In Season 3, Fred’s marriage to Susan brings him new responsibilities, but he remains a steady presence for Sam and Joel. His role in the group’s final moments together highlights his importance as both comic relief and loyal friend.

Jennifer Mudge as Susan

Jennifer Mudge plays Susan, Fred’s wife, who is still adjusting to Fred’s tight-knit circle of friends. While her appearances are lighter in Season 3, her dynamic with Fred offers another look at how relationships evolve when personal worlds overlap.

Tim Bagley as Brad Schraeder

Tim Bagley returns as Brad, Joel’s partner, who welcomes Joel into his home at the start of the season. Their relationship faces small but meaningful challenges, including differing views on faith and community. Brad’s role highlights Joel’s need to be honest about his inner conflicts, and his steadying presence provides balance to Joel’s emotional journey.

Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Iceland

New to Somebody Somewhere Season 3, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson plays Víglundur “Iceland” Hjartarson, the man renting the Miller family farm. His chemistry with Sam is slow-building but significant, representing the possibility of love after loss. Iceland’s presence pushes Sam to stop hiding from her own desires and confront what she wants for her future, making him a key addition in the show’s final chapter.

Mercedes White as Tiffani

Mercedes White reprises her role as Tiffani, the veterinarian and loyal member of Sam and Joel’s friend group. While not always at the center, her presence reflects the show’s theme of chosen family, grounding Sam in a wider community.

Jane Drake Brody as Mary Jo “MJ” Miller

Although her role is reduced in season 3 of Somebody Somewhere, Jane Drake Brody’s Mary Jo remains an important figure in the Miller family history. Her struggles with alcoholism in earlier seasons shaped much of Sam and Tricia’s family tension, and her absence in the final episodes underscores how the sisters’ focus has shifted toward healing themselves.
