"Something in design": Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House star Joanna Gaines opens up about her daughter's first project

Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House Episode 3 featured Joanna Gaines talking about her daughter's first project. She and her husband decided to assign her the small cottage to work on.

The latest episode featured Joanna Gaines sharing more about the cottage project for her daughter. She recalled how her husband wanted their daughter to work on a project before leaving for college.

She also noted that their daughter had always wanted to do something related to designing.

"Chip has always told Ella, Hey, before you go to college, I want you to flip a house, do a project. She's always mentioned that she wants to do something in design. We've actually looked for houses in Waco, didn't find anything, but Chip had this fun idea to let her tackle the little cottage as her first design project," shared Joanna Gaines.

Joanna Gaines shares more about different cottage projects from their recent works

The latest Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House Episode 3 saw Joanna Gaines' daughter working on her first project. It was related to design, as she had earlier talked about wanting to do something in a similar field.

While assigning the "little cottage" project to their daughter, Joanna noted that her husband wanted their daughter to work on something similar.

In a previous episode, she talked about assigning their daughter her first project:

"Hopefully, this is the thing that kick start all of the beauty she's gonna be creating in the future."

In Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House episode 2, Joanna talked about similar work for their mountain home's cottage. After finalizing the designs, she shared:

"So now that the design is complete on the main house, we have not put all of our focus onto this cottage. It is like a guest cottage. It is one bedroom. Really, on the exterior, everything's gonna stay pretty much the same. All we're gonna do is change the exterior paint color, but we're gonna keep the roof."

For the insides, the Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House star noted that it was a bit more masculine. So it needed some feminine touches to balance it. For that, she discussed texture and color. For that, she wanted to add more delicate accessories, such as brass. She noted that it would help balance the tone.

Joanna mentioned that the anchor point for that space would be the new fireplace they were going to install.

"The anchor of this space is gonna be the new fireplace that we're gonna install. We're in the mountains. We think, for winter, a cozy fire is a dream. Then I'm gonna put two windows on both sides. Because the view is the most beautiful thing. Everywhere you look, hopefully there's a window and a view," added Joanna.

Further, she mentioned that green was her favorite color and that it didn't feel "too punchy" in that cottage. Hence, they planned on using it as much as they could. She mentioned that they were going to keep the existing wood floors.

The roof was going to be green as she wanted it to be a little cozy. For the walls, they considered either keeping the existing colors or using the creamy plaster.
