Considering the star power of Kim Kardashian and the track record of Ryan Murphy, there were high hopes for All’s Fair. However, the series has not been able to live up to the expectations and has received disastrous reviews from the critics.

The legal drama revolves around a group of female divorce lawyers who decide to lead in a male-dominated field and establish their own firm. Apart from Kim, acclaimed actors like Naomi Watts, Sarah Paulson, Glenn Close, Teyana Taylor, and Niecy Nash-Betts are a part of the main cast, but their stellar performances have not been able to save the series.

Anthony Hemingway, who has directed multiple episodes of the Hulu show, has now reacted to the negative reviews. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hemingway talked about how shows sometimes take their own sweet time to make their place in the audience’s hearts.

Since All’s Fair has released only three episodes so far, it might be too soon to judge the series. The director stated:

“Sometimes things may take time. I did The Wire. No one liked the show when it was out. They hated it. They didn’t watch it. Two people watched it every week. But it got to a point where it found a moment.”

All’s Fair director opens up about the criticism towards the show

All’s Fair premiered on Hulu with its first three episodes on November 4, 2025, and received largely negative reviews. Critics have argued that the series lacks any emotional depth and features thinly written characters. Citing the example of The Wire, Anthony Hemingway highlighted that he is not trying to compare the two shows, but is pointing out that sometimes a show needs a minute to shift gears:

“I’m not comparing the show to The Wire — let’s get that straight — but it’s an example of how people can react to something in one moment and it becomes something totally different in another time. The show takes a minute to get into gear, but I do feel like it is absolutely striking something that is refreshing and creatively fulfilling.”

At the same time, Hemingway also agreed that it is hard to please everybody, and while some audiences could connect to All’s Fair, others might not relate to it. Revealing how he enjoyed directing and executive producing the series, Hemingway said:

“It’s entertainment, it’s a comedy, and it’s a matter of finding ways to tap into real conversations and real human dynamics in a different way. Every time you meet any sort of difference, it takes a minute to either develop a taste for it or not. It may not be for you, and that’s OK, but I personally enjoy the show. I had a lot of fun relating to it in my own way.”

All’s Fair marks Kim Kardashian’s first fiction show as a lead. She plays divorce lawyer Allura Grant in the series and is joined by Niecy Nash-Betts as Emerald Greene, Glenn Close as Dina Standish, Naomi Watts as Liberty Ronson, Teyana Taylor as Milan, Sarah Paulson as Carrington Lane, and Matthew Noszka as Chase Munroe. The legal drama has been created by Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz, and Joe Baken.

All’s Fair airs new episodes on Hulu on Tuesdays.
