Sophia Stallone will be bringing S.T. Abby's best-selling psychological thriller book, The Mindf*ck series, to television. Deadline reports that Stallone is putting together the adaptation under Amazon MGM Studios' first-look deal with Balboa Productions. She will executive produce alongside Erin Simon, Matt Berenson, D. Matt Geller, and Tonya Owens Houle.

The show is looking for a showrunner. The five-book series has been a resounding success since being self-published, garnering more than 200 million reads and gaining a loyal following on BookTok and Goodreads.

The Mindf*ck book series: History and popularity

The Mindf*ck series was penned by S.T. Abby, a pseudonym for Christie Marie Owens. The books started as an independently published endeavor and soon picked up speed, becoming a sensation within the romance and thriller communities.

The series has appeared on a number of "most addictive reads" lists and enjoys a huge following on Goodreads and BookTok. S.T. Abby died in July 2021 at 37 years old. Her writing still moves readers, and the adaptation is regarded as a tribute to her legacy.

Plot overview of The Mindf*ck series

The story of The Mindf*ck series revolves around Lana Myers, a victim of a traumatic past and a vigilante serial killer. Having survived a violent attack that destroyed her family, Lana spends her life taking revenge on the men who made her suffer and on the cover-up that followed. She lives behind a well-built cover, keeping her real motives and actions hidden from others.

Lana's existence is complicated when she falls into a romantic relationship with Logan Bennett, an FBI agent. Logan belongs to the investigating team, probing the murders carried out by Lana, without realizing that the woman he is in love with is the murderer he has been searching for.

The Mindf*ck series progresses in the form of a suspenseful cat-and-mouse game, with Lana continually weighing her desire for revenge against the threat of being discovered. The series addresses themes of justice, trauma, and morality. Lana's behavior challenges both readers and characters to consider the morality of vengeance and the ramifications of uncurbed corruption and power.

The Mindf*ck series takes place in the quaint town of Delaney Grove, which has profound secrets and a corrupt past. As Lana and her co-conspirator Jake carry out their missions, they reveal the town's dark history and compel its occupants to face their culpability.

Narrated by alternating first-person perspectives from Lana and Logan, The Mindf*ck series becomes increasingly tense as Logan draws closer to reality. The last books then culminate in a climactic confrontation, with Lana arranging a town-wide reckoning and confronting those who have betrayed her.

Both Lana and Logan must confront the aftermath of their actions and the effects on their relationship and future in the end.

Sophia Stallone's role and motivation

Sophia Stallone is a vocal promoter of the adaptation. She has committed to maintaining fidelity to the writer's vision by saying,

“We will not dilute it. We are committed to telling this story as the author envisioned—raw, bold and unforgettable. We owe it to the fans and to S.T. Abby.”

Besides her writing work as a producer, Stallone is a literary activist and is co-host of the podcast Unwaxed alongside her sister Sistine. She is also the founder of Favorite Book Club, an online book club for reviews and discussions.

Production and Balboa Productions

The show is being produced under development by Balboa Productions, which has produced titles such as Tulsa King and A Working Man. The company specializes in producing scripted and reality series, and the agreement with Amazon MGM Studios gives the new series a solid base.

Community and fan reactions

The fans of The Mindf*ck series have reacted positively and looked forward to the adaptation being true to the original material. A few have questioned the depiction of gruesome scenes and the necessity of being true to the original characters. Most feel that the intensity of the story and themes should lend themselves to a television adaptation.
