The Big Bang Theory brings forth all the elements that are needed for a great sitcom. There is humor, emotions, and struggles, which make this series such an impactful one. It can be the perfect option for a binge-watch session.

Though there are multiple sitcoms that have been released through the years, I think The Big Bang Theory struck gold with the presence of one character. The character is none other than Sheldon Cooper.

This article reflects the writer’s opinions. Readers’ discretion is advised.

The Big Bang Theory won the sitcom game with Sheldon Cooper

It cannot be denied that Sheldon Cooper, from The Big Bang Theory, definitely comes with a set of flaws. He is constantly nitpicking. It can become a characteristic that many might find annoying. However, underneath all that constant scrutiny and tantrums, there lies a character without whom the series would definitely not have the distinct charm for which it is recognized.

The Big Bang Theory mainly focuses on Sheldon and his group of friends as they navigate through life with their troubles that can often not be relatable, yet they are always humorous to watch. A significant aspect of Sheldon Cooper’s nature in The Big Bang Theory is his inability to lie.

No matter the situation, Sheldon finds it difficult to lie. There are definitely times when Sheldon’s veracity affects others. However, in the end, his truthful nature definitely becomes a significant attribute, making him a genuine person.

The transparency that Sheldon provides in The Big Bang Theory, because of his inability to lie, makes him a heartwarming character. Amongst the many sitcom characters, Sheldon’s another characteristic attribute that shines bright is Sheldon's loyalty to his friends. Many times when Leonard gets annoyed by the activities that Sheldon does, he also remembers Sheldon’s loyalty, which he has shown by staying by his side throughout.

The constant bickering that the two of them have, along with many other troubles, makes Sheldon’s loyalty to Leonard a great character trait in the series. There are definitely many characters who also depict the aspect of loyalty in sitcoms. However, Sheldon’s loyalty, especially because of his distinct nature, makes an impact.

A significant attribute that makes Sheldon Cooper the heart of The Big Bang Theory, besides making him the game-changing character for the series, is his capacity for growth. This attribute can be seen at the end of the series. At the beginning of the series, he was strict about his dislike of physical touch.

However, with the progress of the episodes, his dynamic with physical touch changes dramatically. His relationship with Penny brings forth a softer side of himself, which truly is quite impactful. It is rare to see such complex characters in sitcoms as Sheldon Cooper. Hence, for me, his presence completely transformed the show.

Besides the prodigious intellect that this man comes with, the steady growth in his character makes watching him on the show a delightful experience. It cannot be denied that characters that rarely show any growth often end up becoming forgettable characters.

However, it is not the case for Sheldon's character in this series. Jim Parsons was able to do justice to Sheldon Cooper. His performance made Sheldon a memorable character in the world of sitcoms.
