The saga Spartacus is always a topic of discussion among the audience, not only because of the fantastic visuals, but also for the alternative take on telling stories that are brought forth by the visuals, along with the incredible characters.

The saga itself, mature and starting its serialization back in 2010 and concluding in 2013, is ultimately the reason for opening doors for several actors who later began doing different sorts of films and shows.

For many viewers, recognizing these actors elsewhere often leads back to the same question: Where have I seen them before? The answer, of course, lies in their previous work in telly, genre films, and series in which they appeared in character roles well removed from the Romans.

Andy Whitfield – Spartacus (Season 1)

The role of Spartacus was first played by Andy Whitfield in the series Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Andy also has a background in Australian TV. He has performed roles like that of a doctor in All Saints, an uncle in Packed to the Rafters, and one of the cows in the station in McLeod's Daughters.

In 2007, Whitfield was the leading character in the fantasy-action film Gabriel, a role much admired. When he got the news of his ailment, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, in 2010, he pulled back from Spartacus. Whitfield lost his life to cancer in 2011. His role in the film is one of the most symbolic in his career.

Liam McIntyre – Spartacus (Seasons 2–3)

Since the beginning of Spartacus Vengeance to the end of the War of the Damned, Spartacus was portrayed by Liam McIntyre. He has also played some particular roles in Neighbours and Rush.

He also portrayed Mark Martin, the Weather Wizard himself, in The Flash. He provided his voice for the video game of Spartacus Legends for the role of Spartacus.

Lucy Lawless – Lucretia

Lucy Lawless played Lucretia as one of the central characters in the series. Before that, she appeared in Xena: Warrior Princess as Xena. Also, her part in the main series brought her fame in the entire TV industry.

She has also been part of major productions like Parks and Recreation, Salem, Ash vs Evil Dead, and My Life Is Murder.

Manu Bennett – Crixus

Crixus is the character of whom Manu Bennett acted on various occasions at various eras presented in the series Spartacus. In addition, he was also part of The Condemned and the vampires in 30 Days of Night.

He has also been caught portraying the character of Slade Wilson / Deathstroke in Arrow and The Hobbit Trilogy as Azog.

John Hannah – Quintus Lentulus Batiatus

John Hannah assumed the character of Quintus Lentulus Batiatus in the TV series Spartacus, and the majority of the audience, even before the show started, easily identified him as such. The actor had already been a major cast in the super hits, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Sliding Doors, which guaranteed his prominence and easy M.O. recognition even in the new territory of non-British cinema.

However, TV was the main platform for Hannah's performances. He did a few more series like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Transplant, and A Touch of Cloth after he completed his role in Spartacus. His career has been more or less zigzagging between serious drama and dry humor, and although he is not very popular, his work is surprisingly diverse and includes a lot of plays.

Peter Mensah – Oenomaus

In the historic fiction series Spartacus, actor Peter Mensah played the character Oenomaus, who was a man of self-control and power. He was very much appreciated for his hard work and talent in Hollywood, having previously taken part in such productions as 300, Avatar, and The Incredible Hulk, among others. These movies helped him become a professional recognized in large productions.

Mensah, after Spartacus, kept appearing on TV shows for a long period of time without a break. He was in many series like True Blood, Sleepy Hollow, Midnight, Texas, and The Walking Dead. If he looks like a commonly seen character in many serious or tension-building shows, this is most probably the reason why.

Dustin Clare – Gannicus

Character Gannicus, played by Dustin Clare in Spartacus, was introduced in the miniseries Gods of the Arena. His most recent productions were McLeods daughters and Underbelly.

Following the Spartacus series, Clare appeared in a role in the television series A Place to Call Home and in Wolf creek where his acting work was mainly in Australian television.

Katrina Law – Mira

Katrina Law acted as a character in the television series Spartacus as Mira. She also worked on the Legend of the Seeker and the CSI after the series.

Eventually, Law made the role of Nyssa al Ghul in Arrow after Spartacus, and was co-starring in Hawaii Five-0 and NCIS.

Nick Tarabay – Ashur

In the series Spartacus, Nick Tarabay portrayed Ashur, a character. Before the series, the actor's name was associated only with the drama series Crash among his TV appearances.

Afterwards, Tarabay appeared in The Expanse, Arrow, The Man in the High Castle, and Stargirl, to name a few, in the post-Spartacus era. His comeback as Ashur in the 2025-announced spin-off, Spartacus: House of Ashur, was to recreate the character again.

Jaime Murray – Gaia

Jaime Murray played the role of Gaia in Spartacus: Blood and Sand. She also acted in the TV series like Dexter and Hustle.

Jamie was seen in Warehouse 13, Defiance and Once Upon a Time.

Lesley-Ann Brandt – Naevia

In the final season, Lesley played Narvia. Earlier she had worked in Single Ladies and Diplomatic Immunity.

She also played the role of Magic Jean in the supernatural drama Lucifer. Moreover, she was one of the main cast of the show throughout the season.

Spartacus cast consisted of actors from Australian, British, and American TV. The vast majority of them began to act after the series, but typically in productions that were motivated by fantasy, crime, and science fiction genres.

Although the final episode of Spartacus aired in 2013, its cast has continued to make the series a topic in recent discourse on television, which is being done now.
