Squid Game creator reveals the reasoning behind Myung-gi's actions

All through the three seasons of Squid Game, Gi-hun has confronted the destruction of humanity for greed; however, nothing could be worse than Myun-gi's actions in the final game. The final game consisted of three rounds, where the players had to sacrifice one or more players to proceed to the final level.
Gi-hun promised Jun-hee that he would take care of her baby, and he managed to keep this promise by keeping the baby safe in the first two rounds. However, moving into the third round, it is the baby's father, Myung-gi, who poses the biggest threat to the baby. Myung-gi threatens Gi-hun to stay at the second level and give him the baby so that Myung-gi can kill the baby (his own, only a few days old baby) to ensure he's the sole winner of the Squid Game.
This horrific action came as the worst of humanity, and Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed the reasoning that went behind Myung-gi's character and his actions:
"He tries to look the other way, prioritizing his own interests, immediate financial gain, and greed. He seeks his own interests even at the expense of the baby. Myung-gi represents all of us. We constantly talk about passing on to our future generations, how the planet is at its limit, or how the national pension system will soon [run] dry. But when it comes down to it, no one wants to pay more into the pension fund, we aren’t really living carbon-neutral lives, and we still produce just as much waste — all for our own convenience and self-interest."
Myung-gi stands in complete contrast to Gi-hun, who sacrifices his life at the end of Squid Game Season 3 to save the baby's life. The last few moments of Gi-hun as he picks up the baby from the edge of the rock and brings it back into the center to safety, we are reminded of the father in the first season who wanted to treat his daughter on her birthday, and it's as if he's holding his own daughter instead of Jun-hee's baby girl. Here's what the creator had to say about this contrast:
"I eventually came to believe that, no matter how hopeless and dark the world may seem, perhaps we still have a chance if we can find even a glimpse of hope within ourselves. Rather than seeking something from or in others, I hope we can reflect on our own values and whether we have faith in ourselves, so we can build on the good within us. That’s the takeaway I hope viewers will have after watching Season 3."
Myung-gi and Gi-hun's actions stand in contrast to each other, as was intended by the creator to showcase hope and sacrifice as the only way out, while commenting on humanity's treatment of the world that they're leaving behind for the future generation.
