One of the main reasons why the Squid Game Season 3 affects the viewers emotionally where Gi-hun is begging to be killed is because they resonate with his grief as everybody he was close to in the game, everyone who stood by him without asking any questions, be it Jung-bae or In-ho, had been killed(according to him).
In the recent BTS segment Squid Game in Conversation, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk reveals he had initially planned to include In-ho in the hide and seek game, but later scrapped the plan to make the plot even more cruel, and so he did, so much more cruel. Here's what he revealed about his decision.
Squid Game creator reveals why he scrapped plans to include The Front Man in the first game of Season 3

One of the biggest twists of Squid Game Season 2 was watching The Front Man go undercover as a player to keep track of and manipulate Gi-hun's attempts to end the game, from the inside as his friend. Gi-hun even blamed himself for In-ho's death, along with everyone else's, at the start of Squid Game Season 4, unaware that In-ho was alive and well as The Front Man, and was running the game.
The Squid Game creator and director, Hwang Dong-hyuk, reveals in the recent segment on Netflix that he had initially planned on keeping In-ho around for the hide-and-seek game that the participants play in the third season. However, he changed his mind after considering the alternative where In-ho is perceived dead by Gi-hun due to his actions, making Gi-hun's breakdown in Episode 1 and the reveal of The Front Man's identity even harder-hitting. He explained:
"I agonized over his exit too, how he'd go. I wrote one version where he left later, staying till Hide-and-Seek. But killing Jung-bae [Lee Seo-hwan], then leaving the games, I thought that was the cruelest option, while faking his own death, so I wrote that. And plot-wise, those moments created major turning points, which determined the larger story and overall arc of seasons 2 and 3."
This creative decision from the creator turned out to be for the best, as In-ho's actions, killing In-ho, manipulating Gi-hun, leaving him alive and suffering, and then controlling the game from the outside wouldn't have had their emotional effect on the plot if they had happened in any other sequence as they did.
Nevertheless, it was a definite treat in Season 2 to witness the Front Man in the games, as he manipulated them from the inside, and even became a trusted companion to Gi-hun. Lee Byung-hun did an exceptional job playing In-ho, perfectly displaying his hopelessness and heartlessness even while pretending to be in the games beside Gi-hun.
