Squid Game Season 3 is finally here, and the excitement around it is palpable! The final season of the hit series will premiere on the streaming platform on June 27, 2025. In the first 6-minute sneak peek released by Netflix, we find Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) broken after the events of Season 2.
His next decision hangs in the air as he is now intertwined in the game more than ever before. Meanwhile, the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun) is mounting pressure on the participants of Squid Game, with deadlier consequences.
As per Tudum by Netflix, the creator of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk shared,
“For Front Man, sending Gi-hun back to the game — rather than killing him — makes sense. He wants Gi-hun to really feel and understand the heavy price of his own mistakes. Front Man wants Gi-hun to be driven to a state where he will finally give up his faith in humanity as well as faith in himself. It's important for the Front Man that Gi-hun returns to the game.”
Lee Byung-hu further added,
“Front Man wants to dismantle the noble belief that Gi-hun holds on to. Front Man believes that Gi-hun will inevitably change to think just like him.”
The first 6 minutes of Squid Game Season 3
The pink guards of the Squid Game bring the gift-wrapped coffin to the dormitory. While these coffins are usually reserved for the deceased or disqualified players, this time they bring back Gi-hun. The other players are glad to find him alive.
Meanwhile, Hwang Jun-ho (played by Wi Ha-joon) and the search crew aboard the boat are wary about the disappearance of one of the team members. They suspect that something much more sinister is at play. Captain Park (played by Oh Dal-su), who is working against them, looks tense and shares that the person must have gotten drunk and fallen off the boat. The body of the member lies on the shores, unknown to them.
In the dormitory, Gi-hun finally wakes up. He is seen struggling to accept that his rebellion failed and resulted in several casualties, including one of his closest friends. Timing couldn’t be more perfect as the guards come in and reveal that 35 players got eliminated last night. More money is added to the pool, accumulating to 39.6 billion won, with each one entitled to get 660 million won. They get ready to vote on whether the players want to continue the game or not.
But Gi-hun, who is unable to cope with the burden of it all, screams at the guards, asking why he was left alive. He even tells them to shoot him right at that moment. But he is restrained and pulled back. In a heart-wrenching moment, we see Gi-hun finally give up and say,
"You won! So go ahead and kill me.’"
The Front Man watches Gi-hun break down and takes his drink casually, plotting more.
In the interview, Lee Jung-jae shared,
“When the coffin is opened, Gi-hun is reborn. He has to go back to the competition, play the game again, and make choices again.”
