As promised by creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game Season 3's new games were deadly and brutal, featuring the human fear of heights.

The new games were surely one of the most anticipated parts of the final season and the final chapter delivered some twisted games, resulting in many player deaths.

Teasing the games in Season 3, Dong-hyuk said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

''...In season 3, I decided to introduce games that could really infuse fear in people with sheer height."

The creator surely kept his promise, as 'sheer height' was surely the main villain in Season 3.

More on this in our story.

Squid Game Season 3: Exploring the fear of height in Games 1 and 2

Out of all the seasons, the third season of Squid Game had the most brutal games, resulting in many player eliminations in each round.

The final chapter started with a brutal round of Hide and Seek, where the remaining players were divided into two teams, Taggers (Red team) and Hiders (Blue team). The bloody twist? The Tagger team not only has to find the hiding team in a maze under 30 minutes, but also kill them.

This brutal twist to this beloved children's game resulted in many heartbreaking deaths but it also had an added element of height. While many doors of the maze opened into safe rooms, some also opened to death, as players could fall to their deaths, without even putting up a fight with the taggers.

The element was especially used multiple times in Gi-hun's chase of Dae-ho, who was eventually killed by the former after reaching a dead end.

The second game, Jump Rope, was even scarier and more brutal than the first and also resulted in many player deaths. Raised platforms were really the highlight in Squid Game Season 3, as the second game featured a very narrow raised railroad track and players were tasked to cross to the other side while playing jump rope.

While many players succumbed to their deaths after falling from the height, many winning players even deliberately pushed others to eliminate more players and increase the prize money.

Both the games played on humans' worst fear of heights. Witnessing players drop dead consecutively in Squid Game Season 3 was straight out of a horror show.

Squid Game Season 3: How Sky Squid tested alliances in the final moments?

The grand finale game (Sky Squid) was truly the game of the season, which took the fear of heights to a new level and tested players' alliances at each level.

The game included three elevated towers (each in circle, triangle and square shape) and the players were supposed to eliminate one player in each round by throwing them off the towers. The game was not only brutal and twisted but also easily one of the scariest games in Squid Game Season 3.

Standing inches away from your death while trying to guard your life from greedy fellow players was definitely difficult but Gi-hun managed to reach the last platform, even with Jun-hee's baby.

But before that, all the remaining players were eliminated one by one, who met the others on the solid ground, after being brutally thrown to their deaths.

On the final tower, while Myung-gi finally died, Gi-hun realised nobody had triggered the button to start the round, which made Myung-gi's elimination worthless. Realising it's just him and the baby now, he sacrificed himself and jumped to his death from the tower.

Ironically, while all the games in Squid Game Season 3 played on human fear of heights, Gi-hun's silent acceptance of his fate and his decision to willingly jump off the tower somehow overpowered that fear, emerging as a final winner even in death.

Squid Game Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
