Squid Game Season 3 will pick up right from the finale of the previous chapter, in which Gi-hu's rebellion is crushed as Front Man outsmarts him. Among the most impactful new characters are Geum-ja and Yong-sik, the mother-son duo whose story adds to the show's emotional narrative.

Unlike many desperate players, Geum-ja and Yong-sik only want to ensure they get out safely and no one dies. The mother even claimed in the previous season that she won't live if her son dies.

And now in Squid Game Season 3, they will face off against each other. The first official teaser shows Geum-ja receiving a red ball from the machine while her son is holding a blue ball. This means they are on a different team, and the players might end up in a physical fight.

Not only this, the teaser also shows Geum-ja sobbing like never before. Does that mean her son died? It could be possible as her hair is open too. In Squid Game Season 2, the mother used to keep a knife to defend her son at night, and now the taser hints that she won't need it anymore.

Keep reading to explore what game might be the next in the final chapter.

Squid Game Season 3 will feature Geum-ja and her son on different teams

Since Netflix released a teaser for Squid Game Season 3, there have been several theories and speculations among fans, but one thing that has been confirmed is that the mother-son duo will play on different teams.

Among the players in the red team are the show's leading character Gi-hun (Player 456), Jun-hee (Player 222), Nam-gyu (Player 124), Geum-ja (Player 149), and a few more. As for the opposing team, Yong-sik (Player 007) will be accompanied by Hyun-ju (Player 120) and others.

The teaser hints at the brutal fight between the players, as there was a timer and even a dead body behind Gi-hun. Hyun-ju was also seen preparing to punch someone, hinting that the new game will force them to kill each other.

Throughout the season, Geum-ja has been the most caring player. Be it Jun-hee or Hyun-ju, the old woman has always been there to support them. However, it looks like she won't be able to do the same in Squid Game Season 3 as a showdown is about to begin.

One of the biggest questions about Squid Game Season 3 is, will Gi-hun be able to dismantle the game forever, as the game is gearing up for a darker territory than ever before? As the plot unfolds, viewers will see Gi-hun evolve significantly. Once a struggling gambler, he has now become a man driven by purpose and pain.

His return to the games is not just about revenge—he’s haunted by guilt and the weight of the lives lost. The season will focus heavily on his inner battles and the harsh moral decisions he must face. One of the central threads will be his conflict with the Front Man, Hwang In-ho, who is expected to have his own internal struggles.

The Season 3 teaser has also shown Gi-hun being handcuffed, which means the Front Man won't let him carry out another rebellion easily. But after losing his best friend, Gi-hun will continue his fight and help the players escape the deadly game.
