The trailer of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy showcases a digitally altered San Francisco in the 32nd century that pays homage to Star Trek Into Darkness' depiction. Starfleet Academy's emergence on Earth indicates a significant moment, suggesting the planet has been welcomed back into the Federation after being isolated for decades.

Details in the background, such as neon signs referencing Quark's bar, the Mariposas butterfly from Picard Season 2, or King Mei from Discovery, serve as connections to previous stories both subtly and significantly. The Academy campus features some familiar elements, such as a large tree seen in Discovery and the James T. Kirk Pavilion, which pays homage to the legendary captain of the Enterprise.

A Wall of Legends & Heroes features classic Starfleet characters, like Harry Kim, Jadzia Dax, Will Decker, B’Elanna Torres, and Wesley Crusher, for a fun Easter egg hunt for fans. For lightheartedness, even the displays questioning Captain Benjamin Sisko’s fate playfully engage with Star Trek history in the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy trailer.

The trailer of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy also shows several returning and new characters. Mary Wiseman comes back as Lt. Sylvia Tilly, now an instructor at Starfleet Academy, along with Commander Jett Reno, Admiral Charles Vance, and The Doctor, who is teaching as an "800-year-old EMH."

New cadets bring thrilling elements: Klingon Jay-Den Kraag, hybrid Master Lura Thok (Klingon-Jem’Hadar), villain Nus Braka (Klingon-Tellarite), Captain Nahla Ake (400+ year old Lanthanite), and hologram Sam (Kasqian) all provide interesting dynamics. Most interesting of all is Tarima Sadal, the daughter of Betazed’s president, showing out-of-control psychic powers, who also begins a romance with Caleb Mir, and reminds us of Riker and Troi.

So, the trailer for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has proved that the series is packed with action and suspense. From USS Athena facing space battles to a cadet dying in space, fans can expect the most unexpected in this new TV series coming on Paramount+ in January 2026.
