Jordan Canning shares a behind-the-scenes look at Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 5

Now, Jordan Canning has also given fans a sign that production for the final season has officially begun.

Jordan Canning posted a picture of her director's placard on Instagram, proudly stamped with "Episode 502." Her caption was simple but full of energy:

"Back in the (space) saddle"

For those who've followed her work on the show, the post was surely exciting to look at.

Canning first joined Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in Season 2 and has also had proper involvement in Seasons 3 & 4. This record has made her a trusted director in the show's creative team.

The final voyage with Jordan Canning at the helm

The fifth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be shorter than what fans are usually used to, with only six episodes compared to the usual ten.

That decision came after talks between co-showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers and Paramount+, who thought that the story deserved a proper goodbye even if it meant fewer hours of TV.

In Goldsman's words, while speaking to Collider,

"We said six, and they said six. So that gets us right up to Kirk's first day on the job."

That highlights just how well this show has been built to connect with Star Trek's timeline. From Captain Pike leading the Enterprise to Paul Wesley's younger James T. Kirk coming in, the show has always been about bridging the gap to The Original Series.

Jordan Canning's involvement in directing one of the final episodes adds even more excitement, and fans simply cannot wait.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is officially on its way to its last course, and Jordan Canning's update proves that Season 5 has already started taking place. Her return to the director's chair makes sure that the series' final episodes will have the same energy and heart that made her earlier work so memorable for Star Trek fans.
