Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Ethan Peck mentions why the upcoming puppet episode is a “special” one

In an interview with TV Insider, Ethan Peck, who plays the role of half-vulcan and half-human officer, Spock, revealed his feelings about the puppet episode in the series,

“I don’t see a lot of shows that take swings quite like that, big genre swings like that. So when it first started happening, it seemed like it would just be a rumor, it would never come to fruition. And when we heard about this, we were like, ‘No, come on. Really? That’s just crazy.’ And then it happened and it’s going to be, I think, a really special episode. I hope it will be.”

Though he did not let on much about the episode, he teased that this wouls be a special one especially because of the experimental approach to it. It cannot be denied that the Star Trek franchise does not restrict itself to a fixed genre or a fixed formula while approaching its shows.

The unpredictability of it all makes the franchise so much more intriguing for the fanbase. There is always something fresh, even in the familiarity of the show. The addition of the puppet episode will only add to the mystery.

Producer Henry Alonso Myers, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, said:

“I was familiar with how to do some of this stuff. In production, we'd have long conversations with our director in mind, specifically about how to handle puppets.... We had to have a lot of conversations about making puppets. We had to have a lot of conversations about how to handle our crew, because we also have to have a whole crew of puppeteers. It's just like doing a very different type of episode, and it requires a lot of time and care to do it.”

His words definitely confirm that there were immense efforts behind the creation of this episode. We will see the cast in a completely different light in this episode. The puppet version of the cast was created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
