In The Big Bang Theory season 3 episode 7, The Guitarist Amplification, Sheldon has an outburst after continuously being exposed to people fighting. Sheldon is known for always being in control and not in tune with people's emotions. He usually does not react much to others' woes. But when Penny and Leonard, Howard, and Raj fight, he loses it.

If you are a long-time fan of The Big Bang Theory and have watched Young Sheldon as well, you might realise that Sheldon hates fighting because growing up, he saw his parents fight a lot. The Big Bang Theory does not explore Sheldon's childhood issues too deeply, but there are subtle hints along the way. The Guitarist Amplification addresses his childhood trauma much more clearly when he finally loses it and yells,

Stop it, both of you!

Sheldon's outburst in The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory season 3 episode 7 begins with a disagreement between Leonard and Penny. Penny wants to let her ex, who she considers a friend, Justin, a guitarist, crash at her apartment. Leonard isn’t happy about it, and soon the conversation turns into a loud and heated argument. Sheldon, caught in the middle, becomes more uncomfortable by the second.

As the fight continues, Sheldon tries to avoid the chaos. He turns on the snow-cone maker so that he can avoid hearing their fight. Penny speaks loud enough to be heard over the snow-cone maker and leaves eventually. Sheldon is again upset when Leonard keeps complaining about Penny's behaviour on the way to work and decides to walk to work instead.

Later in this The Big Bang Theory, on their way to the movies, Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, and Howard run into Penny. Leonard and Penny have a short argument again, which does not resolve here. The group then goes to the comic store to pass the time before the movie, and Raj tells Leonard how Penny's right, while Howard supports Leonard. This leads to Raj and Howard arguing about an incident from the past, and all this fighting among people greatly upsets Sheldon.

He has an outburst and yells,

Stop it, both of you! all this fighting, i might as well be back with my parents!! "damn it, george, i told you if you didn't quit drinking i'd leave you!" "well, i guess that makes you a liar. cause i'm drunk as hell and you're still here!" "stop yelling! you're making sheldon cry!" "i'll tell you what's making sheldon cry! that i let you name him sheldon!"

This particular dialogue in The Big Bang Theory reveals how, despite it being years, Sheldon is still affected by behaviors that resemble his parents' fights. It shows how children often carry the pain of their parents' behaviours years after they grow up. So much so, Sheldon remembers exact words from his parents' fights. He is upset as being amidst fighting takes him back to his childhood when he hated his parents fighting.

As the episode continues, Sheldon goes to Penny at her work and tries to convince her to apologize to Penny. This scene in The Big Bang Theory suggests how Sheldon tries to act as the mediator between Leonard and Penny just to avoid them fighting. Penny refuses to apologize, and instead of making things better, Sheldon makes it worse by telling Penny all the things Leonard does not like about her, but is too nice to tell her.

As the episode continues, things get even more heated between Leonard and Penny, and they fight at the apartment shared by Leonard and Sheldon. Sheldon tries to escape and goes to Raj's. But he has to flee from there too when he sees Raj fighting his parents as well. As a last resort, Sheldon goes to the comic book store to get away from all the fighting. Leonard and Penny worried about where Sheldon went (give he does not have a car), went out looking for him, and found him at the comic book store.

Leonard describes that Sheldon is pretending to be in a different universe where Leonard and Penny don't exist. Sheldon corrects him by saying he is just ignoring them. Sheldon acts childish in this The Big Bang Theory scene, which is reflective of the fact that he resorts to child-like coping mechanisms whenever he is around too much fighting. He feels the need to escape. Penny and Leonard try to console him, and they say they are done fighting so that Sheldon will come home.

Sheldon says he is not going to be fooled, as he has heard that before, and it is quite possible that the next thing they know, he is in his bedroom

''bedroom blaring a Richard Feynman lecture while my mom is shouting that Jesus would forgive her for putting ground glass in my dad’s meat loaf while he is on the roof skeet-shooting her Franklin Mint collectible plates”.

What happens next is quite comical but also a vulnerable moment in The Big Bang Theory. Leonard and Penny are technically still fighting, but Penny tries to talk to Sheldon like she would talk to a child. She explains to him how sometimes they might fight, but they will always love him.

She sounds like his mother, reassuring him that their fighting will not affect their relationship with Sheldon. It highlights that the younger Sheldon's fear while witnessing his parents fight was that they might get a divorce and then not love him the same.

They buy him a robot and a comic book to convince him that they are no longer fighting. The episode of The Big Bang Theory ends with Leonard and Penny sleeping in the same bed and Justin sleeping on the couch in Sheldon and Leonard's apartment, making sure not to touch Sheldon's spot.

The Big Bang Theory often does not give us the reasons behind Sheldon's strange behaviours right away. As he goes through a process of understanding his emotions, so do we. This particular episode of The Big Bang Theory shows us one of Sheldon's deepest fears and also the fact that he often gets his way or gets coddled. No matter what, he almost always gets his way.
