We're mere months away from the release of the fifth and final chapter of Stranger Things. Set to premiere with its first volume of Season 5 on November 26, the fifth chapter of this larger-than-life story is a culturally defining moment even before its premiere. The November-December timeline, when the series finale season will premiere in three drops, will be an experience like no other.

As we prepare for the fifth and final chapter of the Duffer brothers' story, they've released script books for the first four seasons with added commentary from the creators. These script books are a look back at every turn and decision that led the Stranger Things story to where it stands now.

A look back on the different chapters of this story reveals that while Season 1 of the show had the surprise factor working for it, leading to a cultural blow-up after the premiere, the second season had the biggest responsibility in bypassing the sophomore slump and making the show succeed.

And this chapter, according to the Duffer brothers, creators of Stranger Things, ended up being one of the most important chapters in the story. Keep reading to find out why Season 2 is the most important chapter in this story, even now, when we're four chapters in.

Stranger Things Season 2 creators think Season 2 is the most important chapter in the story. Here's why.

The Lost Sister, the seventh episode of the second season, where Elle looks for her sister Kali and spends time with her in her search for identity, ended up being a huge divisive element for the fandom. For most of them, this episode ended up overshadowing the entire season and bringing it down.

However, the Duffer brothers are completely against this conclusion. For them, the second season was an opportunity to handle the exceptional weight of expectations from the show, and a chance for world-building, which deeply cemented the mythology that still guides Stranger Things as we lead into the final chapter.

"In many ways, season two is the most important chapter in Stranger Things. It taught us how to handle the weight of expectations and gave us the foundation for the mythology we'd continue to build on for years to come."

The Stranger Things world has continued to grow with every season, but Season 2 was still somewhere in the sweet spot, which carried the childlike curiosity of the gang while the dangers of the evil lurking in the shadows kept growing.

The exemplary ensemble of actors playing the kids in the second season, from Millie Bobby Brown to Noah Schnapp, this season leans more on the growth of their characters as well.

The second season expanded on the cast and the characters, and the rest of the chapters reap those rewards. Sadie Sink's Max added an incomparable dimension to the group and the show at large, as the fourth season witnesses.

"Most importantly, season two gave us the courage to take creative swings, to lean on our brilliant actors, and to keep pushing the story into new territory—even when it didn't always go the way we imagined."

Additionally, the second season of Stranger Things introduced one of the greatest traditions for the show. The introduction of a guest star who completely alters the trajectory of the show. Sean Astin's Bob Newby and his sacrifice set a standard for the guest appearances that altered the story dramatically.

"From Dustin and Steve's bromance to Bob's death to our heroes reaching Will through emotion and song (an idea we would return to in season four), this season is filled with moments that not only shaped the series but also reminded us why we fell in love with telling this story in the first place."

It's easy to see why the Duffer brothers think Season 2 is the most important chapter in Stranger Things. The first two seasons are the skeleton of the show and have laid down the mythology and the characters that continue to shape the story as we move towards the fifth and final season.

The second season perfectly balances building on everything introduced in the first season while staying true to the emotional and heartwarming moments, making it what is quintessentially Stranger Things.
