Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1 is releasing today, November 26, 2025, at 8 pm ET, and Netflix has released a final recap to keep us up to date before the episodes are released. Netflix posted the recap video with the caption,

one last recap before one last adventure.

The recap video not only summarizes what has happened in Stranger Things Season 4 but also reminds us of the highlights and the plot points we should look out for.

Final recap video before Stranger Things Season 5

The final recap released before Stranger Things Season 5 is a compilation of various moments, mainly from Season 4, recapping everything that has happened so far. The video opens with a scene from Stranger Things Season 4, where Dr. Sam Owens tells Eleven about the danger she and her friends were in and that a war was coming to Hawkins. We see him asking Eleven for help since she understood the Upside Down the best and had telekinetic powers.

We then see the highlights of Season 4, like Eddie Munson, Chrissy, and how Vecna always targets people who have

"something in their life... Something that's haunting them."

The recap also shows us how Vecna targeted Max, and only listening to Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush helps her get out of his grip. An important point that the recap reminds viewers of is Vecna's motive, which we know till now is to take over the world. He has set out to achieve this goal and began by opening up multiple portals in Hawkins. We are also shown Dr. Brenner's death, Eleven fighting Vecna at the end of Season 4, and how badly Vecna injured Max.

Another important thing the recap reminds us of is that Vecna blames Eleven for what he went through. Eleven, in a sense, killed Henry Creel when she sent him into the Upside Down a few years prior. In Season 4, when Eleven arrived in the Upside Down to save Max, we saw her tell Vecna,

"If you touch her again, I will kill you again."

While Eleven meant what she said, she wasn't the one completely responsible for what happened to Henry. Dr. Brenner was the one who used Henry and Eleven for his selfish ambitions. Eleven was the one who opened up the gate to send Henry to the Upside Down, but none of it would have happened without Dr. Brenner. In the recap video, we see Eleven say,

"Henry, I know what he did to you."

It is a moment from Stranger Things Season 4, and we see how Vecna doesn't realize that both Eleven and he were used by Brenner and thus wants to exact his revenge on Eleven and her friends and then eventually take over the world. The recap video shows us how the Hawkins crew injured Vecna. Still, the war wasn't won, and multiple gates opened up in Hawkins at the end of Season 4, along with a 7.4 magnitude earthquake, which will be heavily addressed in Stranger Things Season 5.

We also hear Will say,

"It's strange knowing now who it was the whole time, and he's not going to stop. Ever. Not until he's taken everything and everyone.

Interestingly, when he says this, a silhouette of the Mind Flayer appears. This is an interesting detail incorporated in the recap video because of the popular debate regarding who is really behind all of it: Vecna or the Mind Flayer. The Mind Flayer has been a big antagonist of the show, but it was implied that either Vecna controls it or is working with it. Another popular theory among fans is that the Mind Flayer is in control, and through Will's concerned words, the show reminds fans that the question of who is behind it all is still unanswered.

Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1 is going to be released on Netflix on November 26, 2025, followed by volumes 2 and 3, which will be released on Christmas and New Year's Eve, respectively.
