Stranger Things Season 5 Part 2 is here, and we are just realizing that the biggest twist or clue about Upside Down was in front of us and went unnoticed.

The Upside Down isn't a parallel dimension, but it's a wormhole-like bridge consisting of exotic matter. It is a temporary and unstable space held together by these matters, which also connects it to Hawkins. This far darker realm is called Dimension X and also referred to as the Abyss.

This fundamentally changes how we understood the mythology all this time. The upside-down is not a true dimension but a tear in space and time, which exists because some exotic matter stabilizes it. This dimension X is the true origin of the monsters. Being the real home of Vecna, the Mind Flayer, and the Demogorgons, it's an ancient realm that is now determined to invade other realities in Stranger Things.

The biggest reveal, as mentioned, is about the nature of Upside Down. All this time, we thought it was a parallel world that exists, but the truth is, it's a hostile tunnel between the worlds. This reframes the entire truth that was established since season 1. This also makes it clear that Vecna is not the creator of the Abyss but simply an agent. The monsters like Demogorgons, the Mind Flayer are all housed here.

These revelations are unveiled when Dustin pores over Dr. Brenner's journal and uncovers the true nature of Vecna's power. The research said that the Upside Down functions as a wormhole, connecting Hawkins to a far more ancient realm called Dimension X. Now, why Hawkins?

This is also answered in the research, revealing that the wormhole anchors itself to the location where the breach was created. It copies Hawkins, imperfectly freezing it in time and space as the structure is unstable. Understanding this helped Dustin and the kids understand what could be Vecna's real plan.

Henry Creel isn't only trying to rule a parallel universe but also wants to stabilize and expand the wormhole. This will make Dimension X merge with the real world.

Here is how the show had been preparing the viewers for the twist in Stranger Things

The classroom scenes with Mr. Clarke once showed the wormhole theory and also referenced the Einstein-Rosen bridges. He taught how these bridges are often created through rupture in time, and also are very unstable. Will's drawings were shown that resembled wormhole-like structures rather than landscapes, also suggesting that what he sensed was not a space but a fracture. These were some deliberate foreshadowings that we missed earlier. But now that the nature of Upside Down is clear, all of these background details make more sense.

Moreover, when Eleven had defeated Henry in 1979, she didn't send him into the Upside Down. She blasts him into Dimension X, the true origin of this darkness. Therefore, Upside Down only came into existence later as a bridge between Dimension X and Hawkins.

Stranger Things also made it clear that if Upside Down collapses before Vecna can merge Dimension X with Hawkins, time may reset to before Will's disappearance on November 6, 1983. This means there would be no upside down, no Vecna, and no Eleven in the world as it once was. This means the kids are saving the world and erasing the incidents that made them what they are. Will Stranger Things follows this course of ending is only to be seen.
