In which episode do they find Will in Stranger Things?

In Chapter 8 of Stranger Things Season 1, The Upside Down, Will is rescued. The episode aired on July 15, 2016, together with the entire season. In the episode, Joyce and Hopper get into the Upside Down to locate Will. There is also a fight between Nancy and Jonathan against the Demogorgon in the real world. One IMDb user said,

"The Upside Down is one of the best season finales, and I put it up there with some of the other shows' best season finales (Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Once Upon A Time, etc, etc)."

The user added,

"Not only does it provide some great character depth, including fleshing out Steve, the bully introduced at the beginning of season 1, now realizing the way he treated Jonathan and the others, and decides to help the others defeat the DemoGorgon, but it wraps up everything else the first season established."

The episode's title clearly indicates that Will has been stuck in a parallel universe. This rescue is the finale of the first season of Stranger Things, which reunites Will with the family. The episode has a high IMDb rating (9.3), which reflects how much fans enjoyed it.

Hopper & Joyce save Will in Stranger Things

The rescue occurs as Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper enter the Upside Down through a portal at Hawkins National Laboratory. They find Will unconscious in the Castle Byers fort that he built in the alternate dimension. He is attached to strange vines and appears to be breathing through a tube.

Hopper performs CPR on Will, reviving him. They carry him back through the portal to the real world. Stranger Things shows this emotional moment as a major victory for the characters. Will had been out missing for some seven weeks before they eventually delivered him to the family.

Will returns home in Stranger Things

In Stranger Things episode 8, Will appears to be alright following the rescue and goes out with his family for Christmas dinner. Nevertheless, there is a connection between the Upside Down to him. In the last scene, he spits out a small slug-like being in the bathroom. He can see the Upside Down form of his house, too.

Stranger Things uses this to set up future seasons. Will is referred to as the boy who returned to life in Hawkins. His time in the Upside Down still haunts him even in the 2nd season and later. Salvation was merely the start of the story of Will in Stranger Things.
