The Stranger Things Season 5 finale, which aired on December 31, 2025, has been building up ever since the fourth season ended its run, but fans of the show have been waiting for a satisfying ending to the series finale for an entire decade. For several fans of the show, one of the bigger problems with the final season was an uneven pacing and a disconnect with the epic season finale of the fourth season.

The fifth season takes a time jump to 18 months after the events of Season 4, leaving the perfect high-stakes setup that the finale offered unused, but the latest Stranger Things spin-off reveal might just be the solution to this problem.

Keep reading to find out more about this spin-off and how it solves a major problem with the final season.

Stranger Things spin-off centering on Nancy Wheeler covers the wide gap between Seasons 4 and 5

When Stranger Things Season 4 ended, the entire town of Hawkins had split into four, and the people were forced to leave their homes for the sake of their survival. When Season 5 opened, fans expected to find Hawkins to be the stuff of nightmares for the townfolk as the Upside Down, Vecna, and his creatures begin to intercede on the town.

However, Stranger Things Season 5 found none of this. While Hawkins was under military control and the town was surrounded by watchful eyes and barricades, the show barely explored the townfolk, except for the main Hawkins gang, reeling from the event that shakes them up in the fourth season. An apocalyptic setting was teased for Season 5, but the show never managed to deliver on it.

The latest spin-off announcement from the Netflix franchise might be the key to solving this gap between the events of Seasons 4 and 5. Season 5 begins 18 months after the events of Season 4, but the spin-off starring Nancy Wheeler at the center is set two months after these events. The spin-off titled Stranger Things: One Way or Another is a book by author Caitlin Schneiderhan, and it finds Nancy growing into her role as the fearless leader of the gang.

Nancy has one of the most inspiring growth trajectories throughout the Stranger Things journey, and to find her finally growing into the fighter who offers herself up as bait without a second thought in the gang's fight against the monsters will be extremely gratifying. Additionally, the upcoming spin-off offers a deeper understanding of her character and her developing friendship with Robin.

The fact that this spin-off is set mere months after the cataclysmic events of Season 4 gives the franchise a chance to focus on the actual aftermath of the events in Season 4. The book is portrayed to be a Nancy Wheeler Mystery, and it finds her investigating a mystery around her classmate, Joey Taft, and Vecna, and she is helped by none other than Rockin' Robin.

By taking us right back into Hawkins right after it split into four, Stranger Things: One Way or Another has the golden opportunity to set the record straight and fill in some much-needed gaps in the plot.
