What happens in Stranger Things Season 4 Episode 8?

Chapter eight of Stranger Things Season 4 opens by returning to the moment that closed the previous episode. In 1979, a younger Eleven uses the last of her power to seal the gate she opened when she sent Henry Creel into the Upside Down. The action leaves her drained and collapsing, and Brenner walks into the Rainbow Room to find the aftermath without understanding what she has done. In the present, the episode picks up with Nancy still trapped inside Vecna’s psychic hold. Her vision begins with Brenner tattooing Henry in the past, but it shifts into a replay of the Hawkins Lab massacre.
The halls are littered with bodies, alarms blare, and Vecna’s presence stalks her as she tries to escape. Nancy’s attempts to run only pull her deeper into Vecna’s control until he binds her to the tattoo chair and forces her to see a stark vision of Hawkins’ future. She watches the town split open, flames swallowing the streets, soldiers dying, and monsters pouring through expanding gates. He instructs her to tell Eleven everything she has witnessed before releasing her back to the real world, where she collapses into Steve’s arms.

In Hawkins, the group steadies Nancy as she describes the vision Vecna forced on her. The pattern becomes clear. Vecna’s clock has always chimed four times, and each of his three victims has opened a gate. With one kill left, Nancy realises he intends to tear down the barrier between worlds. The group recognises how little time they have to stop the devastation she witnessed.
They debate the danger until Dustin suggests using what they know about Eleven. Her body is vulnerable when she enters the void, and if Vecna functions the same way, his physical form may be exposed during an attack. Max, still marked by him, offers to act as bait by removing her Walkman. Lucas objects, but she insists she can anchor herself to a positive memory long enough for the others to reach the attic of the Creel house.
At the same time, Eleven wakes in the NINA Project facility after reliving the massacre. Brenner and Owens confirm her powers have returned when she lifts the tank. Brenner explains her lost memories and admits he suspected Henry survived. When she enters the void and sees her friends preparing their plan, she demands to leave. In Russia, Hopper and the others escape the prison, discover more Upside Down creatures, and try to contact Owens as they search for a way home.
Fractures, confrontations, and escalating danger

As the Hawkins group commits to their plan, they gather weapons and prepare for the mission ahead. To reach the War Zone quickly, Eddie steals an RV while wearing a Michael Myers mask, and Steve takes the wheel. On the way, Max explains to Lucas why she must be the bait. She refuses to endanger another potential victim and believes she can control her mind long enough for the others to strike. Lucas promises to use the Walkman the moment she shows signs of lifting.
Inside the War Zone, the group stocks up on supplies. Robin briefly spots Vickie with someone else, pulling back before she can speak to her. Nancy runs into Jason, whose hostility forces her to leave quickly. Once armed, the group escapes without incident.
Back at NINA, Eleven demands to leave, but Brenner insists she is unprepared and growing weaker than Henry. Owens sides with Eleven, reminding Brenner of their agreement. When she attempts to go, Brenner locks Owens away and confronts her. She challenges him on the harm he caused, but he sedates her as she forces open the door.
When Sullivan’s forces attack, Brenner carries her outside and is shot while trying to protect her. Before dying, he does manage a few words as he tells Eleven,
“Everything I did, I did for you. I need you to understand. Please.”
Eleven destroys the helicopter despite the collar. Mike, Will, Jonathan, and Argyle arrive, and the group races toward Hawkins.
How Papa heralds the final showdown of Stranger Things Season Four's finale

The episode ends with the Hawkins group building weapons in an open field. Nancy saws the barrel of a shotgun while Max reinforces it. The others assemble shields, spears and Molotov cocktail. They understand that though they are outmatched, they remain the only people capable of stopping Vecna from tearing their world apart.
On the other hand, the California group speeds towards Hawkins as Eleven warns her friends of the impending danger. The fourth gate is still unopened and Vecna is all ready to attack. Two vehicles race towards the scene, carrying the last of wehatever hope Hawkins has to keep itself from collapsing into Vecna's wrath.
The final image leaves Max, Lucas, and Erica stepping into the shadows of the Creel house while the others hurry to reach Hawkins in time. With a walkman strapped on, The stage is set for the confrontation that will determine whether Vecna completes his plan or whether the combined efforts of the Hawkins group, the California crew, and the returning adults stand between their town and destruction.
